I wasmore or less responding to the idea of living in cities when TSHTF but also that living close enough for easy travel from cities is IMHO not a safe idea, generally speaking of course. Travis McGee has posted a cube of relative locations and I agree with him. Another point about jobs is in a fairly severe SHTF situation there won’t be jobs very much. It’s already more and more in that territory. Again IMHO people who can seriously reduce spending and find some ways of garnering income without having to live in close proximity to large numbers of people would be wise to do so.

Now the ugly reality.

Most people cannot and will not move to middle of nowhere as their are no jobs, and making a 30 mile round trip to a store, gas etc, is not going to happen. Fact is if SHTF, no one will be able to receive their retirement checks or anything else...When ya can’t even pay your property taxes, buy medications, feed your animals, or have electricity to pump water...Well... you get the picture. At that point, it won’t matter where ya live.

Yep, it’s a delicate balance, and there are no guarantees. Move to a remote mountain and you might not get found, but you might starve to death eventually if you’re not a crackerjack farmer already. And the farther NW into the cold zone, the harder that gets.

OTOH, your small town with some kind of job and other advantages might get overrun by savages. Who knows? I’m in North FL, at least we grow enough to eat around here.
