So nominate Newt.

When he loses, does he just become one more moderate loser, or do we finally see an end of posts like this with their shaky assumption that the more conservative candidate will always win?

I am 64 years old and I agree with you 100%.

Anyone telling me that if I don't support the selected (bought!!)RINO candidate means I am insuring Obama for another four years is pissing in the wind!!

I am amazed at the trusted (?) conservative voices who have so quickly embraced a moderate (left-leaning I might add): Coulter, Drudge, Fox News, Krauthammer, etc., etc., etc.

Thank you Jim Robinson, Fred Thompson and Rick Perry for standing up against the prevailing moderate winds...

Perhaps other "conservatives" will join you when the winds have died down and its safe once again to go into the boat.

Paraphrasing she who can no longer be named, electability gave us losers Ford, Bush I, Dole, McLame. Supporting and voting for the crazy right winger gave us Ronald Reagan!

I respect your opinion, but any Republican or conservative abstaining from voting is basically casting a vote for the opposition. That’s just how it is in a two part system. Obama and the Dems would love to see a few million more people do what you plan to do.

A pandemic of ignorance and stupidity has infected the GOP.

(*tightens tinfoil hat, glances suspiciously through mini-blinds before typing*)

Either that or things are much worse than we know and the GOP elite are using reverse psychology on us in order to saddle Obama with America’s epic collapse.

(*locks & relocks doors 3 times, tightens tinfoil again for better reception*)

My reason for not voting for Romney if he’s the nominee is that I’d rather Obama take all the blame for finishing the job of wrecking the place than have Romney come in as ‘the conservative’ and have conservatism trashed when he achieves essentially the same end.

I’ll write in Gingrich and sleep well at night.

People ask me today who I voted for in 2008 and I’m happy to say I wrote in Thompson. At the time, he was the most conservative guy with his hat in the ring.

a MODERATE Massachusetts Governor

You're being very charitable. Romney is a full-blown, dyed-in-the-wool liberal. He's certainly more liberal than any of the other RINOs you listed, with the exception maybe of Ford.

I don’t see how we survive massive debt, long term unemployment, and seemingly no real effort to stop either. Maybe I am just to much of a optimist?

I agree 100% (I actually went off on a rant about it http://libertarian-neocon.blogspot.com/2011/12/why-i-wont-vote-for-mitt-romney-if-he.html). I am a lifelong Republican as well and after Reagan in my formative years the GOP has done nothing but nominate RINO losers ever since. Quality candidates like Phil Gramm, Steve Forbes and Jack Kemp were thrown to away so we could get the Bushes and Dole. And let’s not even talk about McCain.

I’m absolutely sick to my stomach at the thought of Romney as the nominee and as President. He is completely dishonest and doesnt believe in anything. When I watch Newt, I often get the feeling that he could actually make this country great again. When I look at Romney, he clearly is going to do nothing to make our long term situation better. In fact, like all the other RINO’s that have been elected, he will make it worse.

I’m extremely depressed today. Every single fake conservative like Coulter, Faux News, Drudge, etc. is coming out of the woodwork to trash Newt and pimp Willard. I can no longer realistically consider myself a Republican.

Let me repeat what used to be the standard FReeper voting protocol:

Vote against the RINO in the primary. Vote against the ‘Rat in the general. Repeat as needed.

This works at all levels from sheriff and alderman to POTUS.

I’ve always been a card carrying republican but this all out assault on Newt and forcing Romney on us will make me leave the tent. I’m 34 and I know politics is nasty but this is the most coordinated effort to destroy a campaign as I can ever remember. And for what, so we can have Mitt Romney? Have we really sunk so low that we think this jackass is our best shot.

If the race winds up being Rombama vs. Obamney, the corrupt establishment can celebrate no matter which “wins”.

Because everything that matters will lose.

Good analysis.

The only thing is you left out a big government Republican candidate running in 2000 and 2004.

So Newt voted for Dole and defended him, he probably could say ... I no more could denounce Dole, than denouncing the Republican party contribution to the insanity

There are few republicans who are running for president or have been in the race or have been mentioned who I would not vote for. I've posted on FR that I would vote for DeMint, Palin, Cain, Bachmann, Newt, Perry, or Santorum. There are several others I'd be willing if not happy to vote for. But leftist Mitt Romney? The father of RomneyCare? The big government gun grabber? No, thank you.

If Romney is the GOP nominee, I will write in another name, but I will not vote for Romney. I will, however, vote. I'll vote for the most conservative Congress I can get, to restrain whichever big government leftist we get stuck with. I'll vote with my dollars as I go Galt to an even greater degree. Romney is simply unacceptable, and I pray we won't have to face that terrible election night, when neither outcome would be acceptable.
