To be fair to LEO's, Mirkarimi is not, and has never been one. He is a rabid Marxist political hack who was a Green (read "Communist") party member until he knew he would never gain higher office as a Green, so he switched to Rat.

He has never served as a LEO or had any LEO training whatsoever, he is a lawyer and a lousy one at that, serving in the most corrupt (San Francisco) DA's office as an undrproductive ADA.

He is nearly universally despised by all the lower rank cops and deputies in SF.

He ran for Sheriff and was elected by a strictly Marxist, only in San Francisco, ranked choice voting system that threw out the two candidates (and votes for them) that both had a plurality of votes far above Mirkarimi.

Mirkarimi is simply a standard leftist, Marxist bully, he's tough with the girls if they're under 12, and if any FReeper looked at him sideways, he'd soil his trousers on the spot, red underwear or not.

Thanks for the background. No wonder the Bay Guardian loves him so much.

A "watermellon environmentalist" ...so, he is a Sheriff; but, not an LEO. Do I have that correct? I have always assumed Sheriff's in VA were LEO’s. Their deputies are sworn officers of the court; carry sidearms, serve warrants, transport prisoners and provide general law enforcement in most counties; although, some independent cities have both police officers and sheriffs deputies. Sheriffs are elected in VA; however, the deputies are not; so, maybe my layman's assumption about Sheriff's in VA has been incorrect.

Funny Sheriff story: In 1964, when I was 16, I had the Sheriff of James City County (just outside Williamsburg, VA) pull me over for speeding (5 miles over). He was driving an old beat up Volkswagen bus w/blue lights mounted down low where the were impossible to see in my rear view mirror by the time I noticed him ...no siren; so, while he had been honking his horn at me for over a mile; I honestly had no idea who he was; other than he appeared PO’ed and I was reluctant to stop as I was in the right lane and he had a passing lane; plus it was a relatively rural area. He finally pulled along side me and motioned me over. Once I pulled over he came up, pulled out his ID and very angrily announced who he was ...fortunately I kept my cool and politely explained I lived at the Naval Weapons Station at Yorktown; and I had no idea who he was and had never seen his private vehicle; nor had I ever met him before. After that, he slowly cooled down and let me go w/o a ticket. I kept a sharp eye out for that damned VW bus after that!
