Mitt Romney’s performance in Monday’s debate turned out to be a game-changer after all. Three days after a Rasmussen poll of likely Republican primary voters showed Newt Gingrich up by nine points, a new survey taken yesterday shows Romney has an eight-point lead heading into tonight’s CNN debate:
Mitt Romney has jumped back ahead in the fevered Florida Republican Primary race with his support back to where it was before Newt Gingrichs big win Saturday in South Carolina.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Florida Republican Primary Voters, taken Wednesday night, shows Romney with 39% support to Gingrichs 31%. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum earns 12%, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with nine percent (9%). Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
That’s a ten-point drop for Gingrich since Sunday’s survey, and a seven-point gain for Romney. The momentum of the debate performance, and perhaps the renewed aggression on the campaign trail for Romney, seems to be firmly established in new polling. That makes tonight a must-win evening for Gingricg, and that probably means a lot of bloody knuckles for both men.
Let’s take a look at the differences in the internals. Very conservative voters still choose Gingrich as the stronger candidate against Obama, but that’s down to 47/34 from 56/24 in the earlier survey. Women had given a three-point edge to Romney on this question, but that has now jumped to 22 points, 52/30, and men now give Romney a nine-point lead where Gingrich had a double-digit advantage. The overall rating on this question now favors Romney by 15 points, 49/34, where Gingrich led by 3 on Sunday. Gingrich’s favorability didn’t change much at 63/35, but Romney’s increased to 73/25.
This looks like a very volatile race, though. A big debate stumble by Romney could reverse this yet again. However, with the tax issue off the table and every other line of attack likely to be a rerun, there’s a question about whether Gingrich can find another way to knock Romney off his stride as he did in South Carolina, or go after the media like he did to win in two debates there.
If Romney wins the nomination Ill be watching for his Scooby Doo ruh roh moment. The media will savagely turn on him as they suddenly discover Bain, his Freddie ties.........
I will cheer and LMAO, right here on FR.
If Santorum drops out the Democrat machine will immediately go to work, because there will be no alternative candidate.
They want to face Mitt! The sex card always works for the democrats (IE Cain). Maybe didn’t work with a scumbag exwife but that was an exception. How many women has Newt ridden in a cab with that felt uncomfortable? We will find out, but I would rather deal with the issue after we get rid of Mitt, how about you? I will call Rick a placemarker and I say we should keep him.
Pretty difficult when the format allows Romney to spit out 10 lies in 60 seconds then gives Newt 30 seconds to address all of them.
I know people from Pa. who say he wasn’t popular for a number of reasons.
He is staying in for his own self serving reasons. And it’s not going to end well for either him or the Conservative agenda.
Better to let Romney, the GOP, the US go down in flames and start fresh.
Country boy will survive...to hell with those who can’t, they’d just vote Dem anyway lol.
Reality is that Romney just manages the decline and fall, the GOP E doesn’t see that we understand that and we are willing to start fresh, from anew.
This mess we are in, which will get worse is worth fighting for...anew.
Rush going on and on about the Newt attacks...
repeating all the attacks, verbatim...
“Elliot Abrams credible, this is the guy that did this and that for the cause etc....devastating attack”
FURL
Now he’ll com back after 30 minutes of Newt attacks and try to say he is neutral...bla blah blah.
NO Sale Rush.
Newt has to work some magic tonight, or he's in serious difficulty in Florida.
I think Rush surrounds himself with more conservative, successful people, and doesn’t appreciate how many in America ARE the dependent class, and how much influence the media still has with those voters in the bottom 25% of the IQ pool...
They had Romney ahead in the polls for SC clear up until they had to be honest. Just wait and see...

Uh...can anyone in the media do simple math these days?
39% (Romney) + 31% (Newt) +12% (Santorum) +9% (Paul) +4% (Others) +7% (Undecided) = 102%
There's 2% too much in Rasmussen's results by this document of it.
Newt certainly has had moral shortcomings. He has publicly repented. Now, if he has confessed his sins, he has been forgiven by God. Who are we to disagree?
Mitt is essentially liberal slime. He is pro-abort (whatever he may say this week after consulting with his pollster) and he is pro-perversion (whatever...ditto). He is anti-gun (whatever...ditto). He focuses solely on money and, at that, on the money of those in his class (whatever...ditto). He shows no interest in the military or in making it the best equipped by far in the world. He is an elitist establishment stooge who would be POTUS because he feels entitled by privileged birth but has not a single articulated conservative plan to be executed by his administration (if we should be so unlucky as to have a Romney administration). He has not a clue as to the lives he has destroyed via Bain Capital's shenanigans and corporate raiding. His mere nomination would substantially wreck the GOP for now. His election would leave the party as totally destroyed as the Whigs after Millard Fillmore and the Federalists after people figured out Alexander Hamilton.
I don't want to spend whatever is left of my life trying to erect a new replacement national party. However, I will not, now or ever, vote for Romney or any other "Republican" who wishes only to be a stooge for the TARP bailout artists, the corporate greedheads of the Manhattan board rooms, the Junior League, the Lowell Weickers, the facilitators of baby-killing and perversion posing as "marriage."
I agree with you that Newt must blow right through these "ethics" charges and every other claim made against him as Romney and the elitists pour zillions into attacking Newt, trying to buy, bully and bribe their way to Romney's nomination.
If your actual name is Walsh, you are Irish. My Irish grandmother (from the Cork of Michael Collins and the successful revolution) calls out to you and to every Irish man and woman from the grave to help destroy this bloodless, unprincipled, plastic mannequin, elitist trash who dares try to use the money of our ancestral enemies (by class and not religion) to seize the only political party available to us. We are not just about St. Paddy's Day. Let us prove to be the worthy children of our ancestors and beat this SOB like a rented mule. Let us never drink the soup.
I have not talked to Tom Scott in a while but I cannot imagine him EVER supporting Romney either. Time for us to take up our shillelaghs and do God's work.
God bless you and yours.
I am now convinced that all of our national elections are, for intents and purposes, little different that WWE wrestling. It’s all for show, it’s all rigged, and it’s all fake.
they don’t need to self-deport, Gingrich will welcome the illegals to stay here:

I will have NO PART of him.
“I will have NO PART of him.”
I think Newt has explained that, you just disagree with him....!
Wait till the debate when Newt can be Newt and we’ll see what the polls say on Tuesday!!!
Well, looks like we’re screwed. The so called “conservatives” like Faux News, Beck, Coulter, Drudge, etc. have stuck a knife in the back of conservatism all so Willard could lose to Obama.
I’m leaving the Republican Party if Romney is the nominee.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. The GOP establishment will prop up Rick S for as long as it’s necessary.
