That reminds me of an incident in the battles between the Scots and English.
An English knight, from what I have read, a very good man, spotted Robert Bruce on a small hill by himself with no body guards. The idea then struck him that he could end the battle by himself and spare the lives of many of his friends.
He was able to get to the Bruce and charged him. Unfortunately for him, Robert Bruce stood upright in his stirrups and killed the Englishman with a battle axe.

Head split wide open with an axe. Bruce then of course preceded to give England its worst medieval defeat.
Bruce was sad.
That he had broken his axe.
