Starbucks today joined a growing list of corporations, including Microsoft, that have endorsed gay marriage legislation in the state House and Senate.
Gay marriage supporters have apparently secured the votes needed to pass a measure through both houses, and Gov. Chris Gregoire has said she'll sign it into law.
Starbucks' statement below:
Starbucks is proud to join other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples. Starbucks strives to create a company culture that puts our partners first, and our company has a lengthy history of leading and supporting policies that promote equality and inclusion.
This important legislation is aligned with Starbucks business practices and upholds our belief in the equal treatment of partners. It is core to who we are and what we value as a company.

I just put in my datebook for Feb 13 to 15th to buy something there and support Starbucks for their pro-gun stance.
Now this. Why can’t these companies be consistent.
Erase, erase, erase.
Unreal! The amount of FR’s that I read say “I’m headed to Starbucks because of their stance on guns”. NOW LOOK! Starbucks is homebase to America’s liberal a-holes. They aren’t capable of doing what’s right.
Shut up & pour!
Thanks for some lunch time laughter. I can just see me erasing something in my calendar, quite unsuccessfully usually.

I wish companies would stay out of politics. I assume that they did some market research and realized that a large part of their customers are homosexuals. This is just about money for them, that’s all.
I don’t like Starbuck’s products, so I don’t buy them.
Can a corporation really endorse something? Or is it the people running the corporation who do the endorsing?
It's kinda like if someone wants to cut in line in front of me. If they can get my permission and the permission of everyone else in line that would end up behind them, it would be ok.
Otherwise, things stay as they are. No forcing change on those who have, for whatever reason, absolutely no interest in changing.
Most companies have headquarters or affiliates in cities and states controlled by anti-discrimination laws. They are either already subverted by the "diversity industry," or fear lawsuits and organized activism.
This is one reason why we should oppose corporate tax cuts and favor individual tax cuts on payroll and income taxes. Large businesses are left-wing, and we're better off making them economically inefficient compared to small, more independent-minded businesses.
“Another company I’ll have to boycott now. I always thought their coffee was too bitter anyway.”
Of course it’s bitter, they are liberals. It’s the only flavor they know.
“Another company I’ll have to boycott now. I always thought their coffee was too bitter anyway.”
It’s made by liberals. Bitter is the only flavor they know.
I’m glad I don’t even like coffee.
I work for Starbucks. Their liberal leanings as a company are irritating beyond belief, and one of our policies includes not talking about politics or religion on the floor. I find it amusing that as a corporation they will come out and say these political things but I cannot say something political. What they mean by “no politics or religion” is “do not say anything that isn’t liberal”. I have resigned myself to this fact.
I did work with a lesbian for a while, and she and I had a really nice heart-to-heart where we talked about what the Bible has to say about her lifestyle. She brought it up, not me. She was one of the coolest people I ever worked with, and we got along really well, even after I told her that her lifestyle was a bad choice. We never talked about it much after that but we still got along just fine.
I also worked with a gay guy (a bit of a flamer) and I never explicity said that being homo was wrong to him; and he freaked out all over me because I casually mentioned one day that “I don’t believe in evolution.”
Moral of the story: As in all aspects of life, be careful of what you say around certain people at work.
In practice, Starbucks’ “no religion or politics” gag policy is obnoxious when the company makes a point of saying things like this.
Sometimes I wonder if I should find a new job; but since my husband is in seminary we have to move a lot and the ‘bucks allows me to transfer seamlessly from store to store. I plan to be a homemaker once hubby and I have kids.
It’s the people who run the corporation. Trust me.
