What possible motive would there be for someone close to Newt to try to concoct a suspicion by anyone that Newt was involved in Hume's suicide? It could only harm Newt, and badly. Your theory makes no sense.
So what if the story was outed it should have been. This is a big deal, a journalist and married congressman having a gay affair? This was obviously a very troubled individual and it is doubtful that this one event was the primary cause of his decision to take his own life.
I’m talking about here at FR. The first place I read this story was in a thread where pro-Newt folks referenced it to explain why Brit was being so hard on Newt. Then they said it should have forced Fox to remove Brit from the debate because he couldn’t be fair.
I have no idea who actually generated the story — I’m only talking about how I heard about it here from pro-Newt folks attacking Brit.

This story has all the hallmarks of an invented hit piece.
Names that the gullible won't investigate because they have already bought the line and already "know." It suits their prejudices.
Unverifiable attributions. Salacious rumors you "just know" are true, but no one will verify.
Even if Hume's son was having a gay affair with Paxton (in 1980 that would have killed both their careers) who was going to benefit from exposing it?
Hume's son is dead, from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He's not around to set the record straight and you can be sure Newt's enemies aren't going to. But a Democrat with an ax to grind would get mileage in the gay community by spreading this around.
You can almost hear it: "Newt Gingrich is the speaker and he'll expose you because he's a republican, and you know what could happen to you from a bunch of right-wingers."
It's classic fear mongering, rumor mongering, and just the sort of tactic democrats like to use to keep people in fear and dependency.
White Collar is a rip off of It Takes A Thief, which is one of the coolest TV shows ever, IMO.
There was an episode that Robert Wagner, Ricardo Maltaban and Bill Russell (yes, that Bill Russell) were on. Where the Hell will you ever see that combo together again?

You believe the word of an aggreived father (Brit Hume) who set the record straight upon his retirement from a highly public position.
Neither Newt Gingrich, nor republicans in Washington, killed Brit Hume's son however much the rumor might serve people like Pelosi.

I can’t tell what you are trying to accuse ME of here, because your statement’s language is ill-formed and lacking specifics.
Further, it’s a waste of words, as I clearly said what I believe in the comment you are replying to — I don’t believe the story that Newt was responsible.
My point in posting, which you are ignoring or simply failed to understand, was that I first read this story from a pro-newt poster who used it to attack Brit as being biased.

FRiends, after listening to this over the top “SOTU”, is there any doubt that Newt’s the ONLY one who speaks better than BHO, thinks faster than BHO, has the guts and nerves of steel to go up against this Obamination without faltering, to give him the campaign whipping he deserves???
I KNOW he has faults (all of them do), but he’s done some great things for the conservative cause, he loves this country, its founders and their documents, and he can KICK A$$. He’s the only one tough enough to stand up to the attacks what will be hurled at our final nominee.
We have powerful forces of both parties working against us, but if we unite for the ONLY one who can beat BHO, I believe we’ll prevail. If Newt’s good enough for Perry, West, Thompson, Sowell and the Palins, he’s more than good enough for me. These are fine, intelligent patriots - and they’re for Newt.
