“In some ways I am kind of excited. We are sort of back where we were in 1979.”

It is similar. A weak Democrat President, with a bad economy that he’s making worse. A Republican Party dominated by a “moderate” establishment.

The big difference and big problem is that conservatives don’t have a strong champion this time. But at least Newt is a fighter, and that may be the best we are going to get.

Agreed. On the other hand, the base was -never- so mobilized and determined as now. We do not have a Reagan caliber candidate in the race, but Reagan did not have a March on Washington, Tea Party support base either.

Yes, I think so. One of the reasons Santorum has never captured my attention is that lack of fight. He has his champions, and passionate ones too, but I just don’t see it in him. We need someone on our side who can be sly, vindictive and vicious. Santorum is no doubt largely on our side, but I don’t see the vicious. With Romney I do see the vicious, but he is not on our side. Gingrich has both factors, IMO. Ron Paul . . . Well, with Ron Paul I see a kind of political Altzheimers. Flashes of the good and solid, but increasing detachment from reality. He should not be allowed to contract or have the keys to the car.

Gingrich will have to do.
