There is no way they could get away with that today, they would get slaughtered in Nov.

Let me ask you the following questions.
For the sake of argument, let's say that the party brass manages to get Jeb Bush nominated at a brokered convention.
- Would you stay home, vote third party, vote for Obama, or swallow your fury and vote for Bush?
- How do you think other conservatives would handle those choices?
- How do youi think Republicans of all stripes would handle those choices?
- How do you think the electorate at large would handle those choices?

People will accept a brokered convention if no candidate goes there with a clear or near majority of the delegates. That's a real possibility. It happened in 1976 with Ford vs. Reagan.
However, they will not accept a brokered convention if there is a clear front runner with the majority of the delegates. Even though I think Newt is a poor choice as a standard bearer, I will support and vote for him if he gets a majority of the delegates. The Karl Roves of the GOP have a duty to do likewise. This isn't Christine O'Donnell and one Senate seat at stake.
