I wasn’t for Newt earlier, but it’s clear Santorum isn’t going to take off, and Newt is far better than Romney. I am concerned about his chances in the general, but I think his idea of a national campaign, not a GOP campaign, and his effort toward creating partners etc. will be very innovative and help him succeed. He also is excellent at turning a negative into a positive, such as perceptions about his past behavior.
My biggest concern is that he might have trouble connecting with women. Indeed, that is the one group that he lost to Romney that he should have been able to win. I am certain of one thing, however. If I noticed this problem, he and his team have as well and will work to correct it.
My other question is, do we get people to vote for Paul in Virginia? He and Romney are the only two choices. Virginia is big enough that it will really be silly, especially if Romney bails out before then. I doubt he will as that is Super Tuesday I, but Florida might convince him once more that he has no chance.
