I keep hearing (mostly from RoPaul supporters) that Newt doesn’t have any way to get enough delegates, due to not being properly on the ballot in several states. Any truth to that?
It’s stories like this that make me question the judgment of my fellow evangelicals. When I was a Santorum supporter, I remember having a conversation with a FReeper whose name escapes me in which he argued that social conservatives like me supported Santorum because we put family values above the economy. I pointed out that that wasn’t the case the me; at the time, I genuinely thought he had a better shot overall.
Having seen Santorum work his magic over the past couple of weeks, I can say with confidence that social conservatism is all he offers. He’s unlikable, he’s not particularly interesting, and he’s put his personal ambition above what’s best for the country (defeating Romney). His waffling on SOPA makes him inherently unelectable.
I can only shake my head in disappointment. These “evangelical leaders” are incredibly foolish.
“One evangelical leader I spoke to said, If Newt wins, we wont be able to make family values an issue in the general.”
Sorry, I don’t believe this. Just how were they going to make ‘family values’ an issue against Obama, when they couldn’t even make it an issue against Clinton?
In any case, ‘family values’ as a political strategy died in the 1990s - his quote is a hoax, the term isn’t even discussed anymore.
Bamster and Klintoon make any discussion of family values a moot point.
thanks
I’m wondering...
Where have all the anti-Newt FReepers gone? Are you all being quiet because you’re afraid of being banned, or have you changed your mind about the guy?
I started off, I admit, with major reservations about Newt’s tendency to put his foot in his mouth and the mountains of baggage he brings with him... but after a certain point I realized that if the guy has me clapping in the general direction of my TV set during the debates, he’s obviously the person I approve of the most... and the person I should be supporting.
I don’t think those states are too much different than the rest (and though Mitt might have a slight advantage with Mormon populations) I doubt it is enough to stop Newt!
As for Michigan, I think it’s safe to say that Mitt Romney isn’t really a hometown boy from there anymore-it’s just a ‘myth’ that he is.
Michigan’s republicans, IMO will be a lot like Ohio or somewhat like Indiana-and I currently live in IN, and did live in MI a few years ago..
Stop with all this Establishment GOP crap. The Establisment GOP is whomover wins the election.
Stop asking us worry about some needless problem. Concentrate on obama.
I'm guessing Mitt's check to her cleared.
A big problem for Romney is that he doesn’t do ‘pit bull’ very well. He’s taken great pains to project a certain image and now suddenly being the heavy makes him look foolish and desperate.

Great news!!
Go Newt!
” I suspect he watched hour upon hour of Reagan footage and has tirelessly tried to adopt his mannerisms.”
It’s funny because I think he sounds like an alien from outer space who did his homework (like the Coneheads?) in an attempt to sound human.
“What a bunch of STUPID Republican voters, nominating that actor who was ready to blow up the world because he HATED the Soviets so much.”
He wasn’t even a ‘real’ actor but someone who was best known for a movie about a chimp.
If Santorum is the conservative he claims to be, he would drop out FOR OUR COUNTRY! Let’s see where his patriotism is. So far PERRY is the one shining in that area!
Also, given the depth of knowledge here on FR, when it is time to take it to Omama, we can flood Twitter with useful information that hopefully will wake ppl up. Heck I have no problem flooding Twitter with stuff about Mitt. Twitter is also VERY useful for sending appropriate comments to our worthless media. If anyone thinks such a thing is do-able and would be worth it, perhaps we can have a dedicated thread to discuss how we would make it happen. We all know FreeRepublic is a powerful voice, and now that it IS getting down to Mitt vs Newt, we have a common target, MITT. After Newt takes it to Mitt, we all will get behind Newt and take it to Obama. For sure we will always have the media to go after, given the fact they have problems dealing with facts. Just my thoughts.
“In what appeared to be repeated allusions to Reagan, who has never held public office, Christopher said Republicans should ask themselves now what experience does the candidate have to hold the office of governor. “
It’s not about Santorum’s experience. Santorum was senator for 12 years. It’s just that he sounds like he’s running for high school president.
The minority vote (hispanic & black) is hugely for Gingrich over Romney. Also, the <65 years vote is in favor of Gingrich, and the younger you get the more in favor of Gingrich.
The black vote and the youth vote really surprised me in terms of Gingrich/Romney.
