Somehow the Catholic Church in all of it’s fundamental mutation of the scripture, convoluted that to mean that there needs to be this ridiculous declaration, investigation and near canonization that a marriage is not over until the Pope, a Bishop or a Cardinal says so.

You forgot to mention the money.
My cousin got an annulment about 20 years ago, at that time she had to pay $5000 in donation to the church.
I do not know how much it costs now.

Mine cost $400. Fill out a form and send a check to the local Diocese and bingo! annulled!!

Catholic Church annulment was even cheaper than the dirtbag lawyer fees.
