But Cheney’s comment refers to Gingrich’s role in taking control of the House. It doesn’t speak to his service as Speaker of the House. It doesn’t have anything to do with whether Gingrich’s managerial style is erratic.
Just consider Gingrich’s embrace of anthropogenic global warming, when he appeared with Nancy Pelosi and John (I still have the hat) Kerry and spoke of the grave threat which it posed. He now calls the appearance with Pelois the greatest mistake which he has made in recent years. Maybe he should have thought the issue through a little better.
Has Cheney endorsed anyone yet? I think his daughter may be for Romney, but not sure.
I don’t worry so much about Newt rethinking global warming. I think he is someone who can be persuaded when he is wrong.
I do worry that he sometimes runs off at the mouth before he has really thought things through. Yeah, he can walk it back if necessary, but it is easy ammo for the media. It is the down side of his being a big idea guy. If he gets the nomination, we would have to worry about him being disciplined.
I also think he is the only one left at this point that would go to DC and really shake things up. And I think the DC insiders are afraid of him. But you are right, he is sometimes unpredictable and undisciplined. I’m not sure that makes him erratic in the way some of his colleagues are saying, and with no specific examples.
I’m not sure that disqualifies him and it is countered by his ability to explain conservative positions so clearly. I have seen several news clips lately where Newt is asked a question by a reporter and starts totally nailing the answer, and it is fun to watch the reporter try to cut him off.
