Newt Gingrich's two adult daughters said that charges by Gingrich's second wife in an interview with ABC News that the GOP presidential contender asked for an "open marriage" are categorically false.
Kathy Lubbers and Jackie Cushman, Gingrich's daughters by his first wife, told ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross they had spoken with their father about Marianne Gingrich's allegation and that he had assured them he never asked for an open marriage.
"We spoke with him about that, Brian, and he said it's simply not true," said Kathy Lubbers. "The truth is our father and Marianne had a difficult marriage. They had a difficult divorce. ... The American people have moved on. Our father has moved on."
"I think most divorces are very painful, they're never easy," said Jackie Cushman. "Dad tried very hard to make their marriage work, and unfortunately it didn't."

So Newt asked wife #2 in front of his daughters if he could keep on screwing around? Mistaking someone who praises FDR as a conservative seems rather strange doesn’t it?
OK guys... put up a picture of Marianne Gingrich next to a picture of Callista.... we should elect him for good sense and judgement.
We're trashing the woman because she's doing exactly what she threatened Gingrich with in 1995. THAT is a bitter woman.
Actually the daughters probably know why Marianne and their father were legally separated from 1988 to 1994.
I've been reading that a lot on this forum. Could you cite just one poll indicating that Gingrich vs Obama would produce a positive effect? I have not seen any yet. Only thing I saw was he had an approval rating of 28% in the general public. I certainly hope that is wrong.
So she speaks up about why he's unsuitable.
And gets trashed. Usually these are leftist tactics.
BTW...you seem to like the Gingrich threads yourself.
I like your ideas so well I am sorry you aren’t running.

I don't visit other candidate threads for the purpose of trashing them. But you do.
I'm officially endorsing Newt Gingrich for President today. Jan 19, 2012 | Jim Robinson
Why should it be news that the daughters asked their dad and he denied it? Wow.
This is pretty lame.
I think the bigger question is why in the world did the daughters feel the need to even ask Newt if he had ever asked for an open marriage with Marianne.
I sure as hell would never had had to ask my father if it had ever occurred to him to ask my mother for an open marriage.
Looks like they took it as a possibility and had to check before going public with their big scoop that “Dad denies it.”
If he had been accused of a gay relationship, half of the Democrat Party would vote for him in the general election.
The fact is, Newt had an open marriage with Jackie and an open marriage with Marianne — they just didn’t know it until after the fact.
It’s kind of ridiculous to fall all over oneself to deny that one asked for an open marriage when one was in fact conducting himself as if he were in an open marriage. And everyone in Washington, including the Clintons (see Marianne’s interview of 2010) and except Mrs. Gingrich, knew it.
At this rate, it wouldn’t be surprising if the third Mrs. Gingrich discovers she’s been in an open marriage, too.
It’s like: give Newt a medal for not asking his second wife for permission to cheat on her when he was cheating on her already and anyway.
Funny. Well, not really.
What goes on in the intimate lives of married people is personal. Obviously, when a marriage fails there are strong feelings. My experience is both sided usually have their reasons and grievances. That stuff is better left private, for all concerned.
What I find disgusting is this obviously still angry woman is talking about very private and intimate details of her divorce to hurt her ex before an important election. And the press is happy to cooperate. This does nothing to advance women's rights, it's revenge, pure and simple.
Do you recall Obama did the same thing to clear out a formidable Republican Senate candidate when he somehow got access to supposedly sealed divorce records?
Ah, yes, that's what they used to say of the Clintonites when they trashed the women.
Now the tables apparently have turned.
The "truth-tellers" are now the ones trashing the woman, eh? My, times have changed.
Did he have an affair with Marianne while married to his first wife?
Well, there’s Newt. LOL
If you spent 5 minutes googling each president and Forefather, you’d see that Gingrich would fit in with a good chunk of them.
Yes, he’s had three failed marriages, but can you name anybody who has a hope of turning your country around?
Not sure you want to go there...
I believe you said "most" of them.
Please don't bring the majority of past Presidents down to Newt's tawdry level in this regard.
If Newt was elected President, he would be the very first to have asked for a divorce. Among his other strange behaviors (advocating global warming, health mandates, loving FDR, calling Ryan's plan "social engineering") his personal life is far from typical of our past leaders.
Then praise the Boy-king, your eternal emperor.
You did not address the fact that Marianne promised in 1995 to deep six any presidential run. You just played the spin game.
You also did not address that you go to candidate threads to throw mud. That speaks to character.
You have a nice evening.
Gingrich just got 2 standing O's for his answers to Marianne questions.
