Gingrich Daughters: 'Open Marriage' Charge 'Simply Not True'

Newt Gingrich's two adult daughters said that charges by Gingrich's second wife in an interview with ABC News that the GOP presidential contender asked for an "open marriage" are categorically false.

Kathy Lubbers and Jackie Cushman, Gingrich's daughters by his first wife, told ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross they had spoken with their father about Marianne Gingrich's allegation and that he had assured them he never asked for an open marriage.

"We spoke with him about that, Brian, and he said it's simply not true," said Kathy Lubbers. "The truth is our father and Marianne had a difficult marriage. They had a difficult divorce. ... The American people have moved on. Our father has moved on."

"I think most divorces are very painful, they're never easy," said Jackie Cushman. "Dad tried very hard to make their marriage work, and unfortunately it didn't."

I happen to be a woman and old enough to know a vengeful woman when I see one.

She said in 1995, after being separated for 6 years and reuniting:

What happens if Newt runs?, I ask.

"He can't do it without me," she replies. "I told him if I'm not in agreement, fine, it's easy" --she giggles at her naughtiness. "I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything...I don't want him to be president and I don't think he should be."

I know women who would not vote for Palin..for whatever reason.

And I know PLENTY of women that WILL vote for Newt....because they aren't marrying the guy, they just want him to beat the hell out of Obama and his crew.

What a man might say to wife #2, what the future wife #3 says to him, and what he tells his kids with wife #1 are three different things.

Specifically, Newt might have tried to negotiate an open relationship with wife #2 by telling her his current girlfriend would allow such a relationship, even if he never brought the topic up with the girlfriend, and he wouldn't tell his children about any of this.

"Open marriage" was Marianne's interpretation of what Newt was saying to her. If he didn't use that exact expression, he can say she misunderstood him.

None of the above is not an option. Time to deal with the world as it is, not as you wish it were. Of the choices out there, Newt is the only conservative with a chance to take down Obama.

Really dear...I see more women freepers calling Marianne on her very old bitterness than I do a few like you playing the estrogen card and calling us all women haters.

Cain had bimbo eruptions and payoffs popping up everywhere. Newt has a mad ex wife 20 years later.

Plenty folks have mad ex wives and ex husbands.

Not many have a trail of shady women and money paid following them around running for POTUS if they are a Republican

Are you still mad about Cain...don't feel bad...today he endorsed you for POTUS in all his wisdom.

I don’t know if she has MS now, but Marianne didn’t at the time of their divorce. She had a condition that could lead to MS.

She has a right to be bitter about her divorce, but she doesn’t have the right to destroy a man’s career because of it.

Nobody is questioning Newt’s philandering ways, but the fact that America is well on the way to losing everything and Gingrich is the only presidential candidate capable of turning things around makes his personal life a non-priority.

Also, if you look at almost every past president or Forefather, most of them were problematic by the standards that we are judging Newt. George Washington is about the only one that could get a pass by those standards.

I suspect Marianne Gingrich is a bit of the drama queen - and was going for maximum damage. Newt was in love with a different woman - ( wow - how could that have happened with such a sweetheart as Marianne - maybe trying to sell influence - threatening husband - says she's afraid of being in the limelight - well, until she's trying to take Newt down ... can't imagine why he'd want to leave her...) he wasn't going for an 'open marriage' just someone 'not' Marianne - is my guess.

Marianne and ABC seems to have the drama queen thing in common - neither of them care about the issue - ABC would defend ANY dem against things a thousand times worse - but both want to destroy Newt. Way to go ABC - you're thrown away credibility you don't even have....

SPOT ON. NAFTA Mae Newt got a Vietnam deferment and now he’s letting his kids help fight his ex-marital battles? This isn’t the sort of man I want answering the White House phone at 3AM! What would he do at that point - wake up the kids???

LOL Maybe Ron Paul is right and Noot is a "chickenhawk" after all. The daughters should not be involved in this at all. Even grown children suffer great emotional damage from this kind of thing. He is even using his grandchildren on stages to show us he is a great family man? Come on now.
