I am sorry about your friend. Sadly it happens too often, anyone who thinks they are these wonderful, family oriented good neighborly conservative people, needs to spend some time in the ex-mormon support forums online.
Just the fact there there are hundreds of support groups for them speaks volumes.

I remember this woman at the elementary school saying they were moving to Utah and I said “oh I am so sorry” and she said “why” and I said, “are you Mormon?” and she said they were so then I quickly said “oh you’ll love it”......
