I’ve posted this before. Several conservative, evangelical friends of mine have stated flat out that they could not vote for Newt due to his past morality and would sit out this election. That was before this latest rehash from ABC.
Although the guy is brilliant, it is just too much baggage. Furthermore, all of you guys saying, in essence, “big whoop, an ex-wife has it against her husband”, wouldn’t be so dang cavalier if Newt was a dem (and sometimes it is hard to tell that he is a conservative, given his past slams against the Republican’s budget plan, sitting on the coach with Pelosi, receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from Fannie Mae, etc.)
While Santorum isn’t perfect either, the guy doesn’t have the baggage, is pretty dang conservative, and understands that we need to cut spending.
Please consider Santorum before it is too late to matter.
santorum is not even within striking distance of gingrich and santorum has ZERO, ZIP, NADA, NONE of any hope of catching romney.
perry is in the single digits,
kook paul is just a nutjob. (seriously he fle to dc for a symbolic no vote like all his other symbolic no votes.)
that leaves either go with ginrich to TRY and stop romney or those self richeous pharasees of the evangelicals are going to have to get used to voting for a person who happens to be a mormon.
Gosh I’m Santorum’s biggest supporter.I haven’t had time to read the thread.
No. Santorum is a priggish establishment statist. His wraps himself in "family values" to cover his love of government expansion like Medicare Part D, disdain or the 10th amendment, indefensible support of Democrat turncoat Arlen Spector over conservative Pat Toomey and his embrace of neocon interventionist foreign policy.
Rick Santorum is the worst of W without the charm, none of the executive experience and a law degree as well.
This ancient history "baggage" rap on Newt is the height of hypocrisy but I have come to expect it from from the so-called "forgiving" evangelical community. Maybe Newt's real "sin" is that he left the Southern Baptists for Catholicism when he sorted out his personal life.
Your moral high horse friends want a life of pristine personal morality in a president? How's Obama working out for them? I suggest they review their Bibles for the flawed men God chose and used to political (and sometimes spiritual) leaders.
No, not Santorum, but I’ll consider Perry.
Your evangelical friends oppose repentance now? Oh, I see, Puritans from Salem types, huh? I would just cut them loose as pals, and let them groom themselves elsewhere. If they can’t promote their candidate without slandering another Christian candidate just like him who possibly cares what they think?
