The day after TODAY reported on the baffling case of 12 teenage girls at one school who mysteriously fell ill with Tourette's-like symptoms of tics and verbal outbursts, a doctor who is treating some of the girls has come forward to offer an explanation. Dr. Laszlo Mechtler, a neurologist in Amherst, N.Y., says the diagnosis is "conversion disorder," or mass hysteria.
"It's happened before, all around the world, in different parts of the world. It's a rare phenomena. Physicians are intrigued by it," Mechtler told TODAY on Wednesday. "The bottom line is these teenagers will get better."

Typical worthless doctors. Any of them that claims this should lose their license.
Goes with the territory.
I’ve actually seen it happen, and, yes, teen aged girls can do it.
Sounds like a front for a class action lawsuit setup on the School...
“...tics and verbal outbursts...”
Happens to me all the time when I run out of beer. But it usually subsides after a 6-pack or two.
Teenage girls, mass hysteria...?
Ridiculous.
Just wait until the SHTF. There’s going to be a LOT of mass hysteria, with people cussing and twitching all over the place like they have Tourrettes.
You should watch a stage hypnosis show some day and then you would understand the power (sometimes negatively) of the mind.
***Yep, sounds like the Salem witch trials or mccarthyism, haha.***
When one of the girls at Salem went into her act and accused a man of being a witch, the man immediatly said he would sue the girl and get a heavy fine imposed. The girl immediately “recovered”.
Same thing happened when several of the other girls went into their act, and found no one around paid any attention to them. They all had an immediate recovery from their “hysteria”.
This is quite a mystery. My first thought is psychoactive drugs or chemicals but there is no way it would affect all of them so similarly and abruptly at the same time.
It reminded me of a little historic tidbit:
In the Victorian era, Female Hysteria was considered a real mental illness. Almost a fourth of women were believed to have it. One symptom was causing trouble.
The cure was medical stimulation of the pelvis until hysterical release (orgasm). The physicians got tired of having their hands occupied for hours and the first vibrators were introduced as medical devices.
Something is in common with all 12 girls. Could they have been exposed to a chemical in their food? Were they exposed to a drug either intentionally/unintentionally? It seems like a real mystery to me, but I suspect the girls may know more than they are letting on.
Agreed. Note it in the medical record for each bimbo, so that this nonsense can be used to reject them for specific jobs.
Teenage girls suffering from hysteria and verbal outbursts ?
Isn’t that normal ?
I see I’m not the only one who went to the Trojan ‘Twister’ site!
If that wasn’t an insult (putting them to sleep), you get a ramge of reactions. Some unaffected, some have the whole experience, one woman was out cold and didn’t come to until I woke them all up.
More of a tweak than an insult. I’ve been in college classes where I was darned near the only one awake.
I wasn’t the professor, that was my class project.
Ah. Um. I hope he didn’t knock points off for intruding on his turf...
