Surprise! Democrats Call for Plastic Bag Tax -- Bill would add $1 to a grocery bill for every five bags --
Democrats in Virginia are often fixated on the gas tax, but sometimes they do come up with other ideas. Like making it more expensive for you to take home groceries.
Del. Joe Morrissey, D-Richmond, and Del. Scott Surovell, D-Mount Vernon, have put forward a bill that would charge hard working Virginia families 20 cents every time they bring home a bag from the grocery store.
Why? It's not about money, according to Morrissey. No, he just doesn't like the fact that people use plastic bags and he think they should stop.
"The goal is not to raise revenue through this tax but really just to change peoples' habits," Morrissey said.
Never mind the fact that thousands of families recycle their plastic bags already. Or that some Virginia companies actively encourage recycling because used plastic bags are their raw materials. Or that some families actively reuse their bags around the house.
Democrats don't like plastic bags, therefore everyone should pay more for groceries. Does that make sense?
Virginia Democrats: Do it our way, or pay up.
Notice the liberals never mention adding a tax to plastic bags used by newspaper companies on rainy days.
Most paper bags come from recycled cardboard. I especially like the bags from places like Trader Joes that have handles glued onto the paper bag.
However, I also like the plastic ones to line my bathroom and office trash cans.
Bring your own plastic bags you ordered online.
.015 each ;) Now.. if sams or the etailer is required to collect the tax... I don’t know what to tell ya.
They can wear those bags tied completely over their heads!
In fact i prefer they do so.
[They found E Coli inside the reusable bags. If you don’t wash them, they become used Diapers with handles.]
I think i will just buy a roll of Hefty kitchen bags whenever I go shopping and demand at the register they pack my groceries in them, it would be more sanitary.
My local fishwrap has at least 1 plastic bag around every single paper they deliver even though we're having a very serious drought.
I am doing the samething. I refuse to shop anywhere in San Jose if possible. I work in Santa Clara, so I pick up groceries on the way home.
No doubt, eh?
Saw it the other day - they were offering a chance to get 20 bucks if ONLY you used the cotton! And this is in TX. Grrr. I came here to get away from lefty nonsense.
bump
Of course it depends on what you carry in them, but it is true they need to be cleaned.
Absolutely correct. The result is more water and power use for cleaning and more illness - while claiming the moral high ground of saving the planet. This is a typical leftist dream - spreading bad while claiming good.
