There is nothing wrong with giving stock to ones Church. Here's the rub: How much did he claim the Stocks were worth as opposed to their true worth, and were the stocks getting ready to plunge.

On paper a "Slickster" can make almost anything work for themselves. Did he deceive his own LDSes???? Perhaps they need to be informed.

Bill Clinton donated his underwear and took a $300 deduction.

Because you didn’t give it to the Democrats to support their efforts. Now if he’d given the same $$$ to support them he’d be wonderful and the MSM wouldn’t have a problem with him

I think the family trust “gifts” are tax avoidance more than charitable.

I know many Christians from many different denominations and I can say not one has ever taken an oath, sworn to an oath, not one like this, or any oath at all (the part that is in bold colors all of Romney's political choices): you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion..

I know a decent amount about it, and I find it to be weird. I classify it in weirdness somewhere between the Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses. That said, what about it makes Romney a less than desirable Presidential candidate? I can’t really see where his Mormon beliefs have impacted his policy decisions. Those policy decisions alone are enough to make me not favor him, but I can’t tie them to Mormonism.

” How much did he claim the Stocks were worth as opposed to their true worth” “. “Did he deceive his own LDSes????”

I don’t know. They can do an audit if they want to and find out.

So those of you who think that this is horrible, that his church is not Christian enough for you, are saying you don’t relish Jewish FReepers in your midst, and you wouldn’t vote for Mark Levin if he’d run for President?

No respect for the faith of others?

These stocks are publicly traded and the values are easily confirmed.

Good grief. The conspiracy theories surrounding Romney are getting out of control.

It is not that lds is not Christian enough, it is not Christian at all. monmonISM is a cult. They deny the very nature of God Almighty.
If Levin were to run for president, wouldn’t that be a fanatic campaign, but beyond that Jews do not deny the very nature of God.
You really should learn about mormonISM it is NOT Christianity.

So what? It’s his religion. You have a problem with the Kingdom of God on Earth? Or is it Zion that bothers you? (better stay away from jews) Or you don’t like that he pledges to build up the LDS church?

Would it be okay with you if he was Baptist and pledged to tithe and help build & strengthen the Baptist church? Or the Catholic church? Or the Lutheran or Methodist church? How about if he was Jewish?

The Christ didn’t attack other peoples belief or religion is such a tired argument that is contered easily with the bible.

What did Christ call the pharisees?

I will give you a hand. Matthew 23:33

There are more than plenty of verses to counter your wishy washy opinion of Christ.

You do not love unless it is rooted in truth. That is the reason that most of the people here make posts that counter the LDS church.

BayNative, charitable giving is not a bad thing, and being committed enough to it to include your time and talents speaks even better of the individual.

God bless you for your integrity.

The thinly veiled bigotry going on by a number of posters a FR is saddening.

I pray most can see past it and vote on principle. I am not supporting Romney, even though I am LDS. He has had simply too many “changes of heart” on too many critical issues for him to be anywhere near my first choice.

Newt, Perry or Santorum would all make outstanding conservative Presidents, particularly if we deliver them a Tea Party orientd House and Senate.

But, should Romney be the nominee, I will vote for him and feel he will stick to what he is promising now...repeal ObamaCare, Cap the Federal Spending, push for a Balanced Budget Amendment, push for and nominate judges who will overturn Roe v Wade, lower taxes, significantly shrink government and burdensome regulations, and keep our military powerful and the strongest on earth.

We will get none of that from Obama and these people’s claims that Romney is as bad as or worse than Obama are simply incredulous to me.

I will do nothing that in any way helps the marxist Obama retain the presidency.

I hope a Newt or Perry emerges and wins...but if necessary, I will vote for Romeny.

Again, thanks for your integrity.

You will probably receive incoming flack as a result from these people...but that’s okay...that such people with such views will take issue with your principled stand is a mark of honor in my book.

Sincerely,

Jeff

THEN PEOPLE NEED TO understand the implications of that fact.

I can see it now:

Headlines: ROMNEY CONSECRATES THE OVAL OFFICE TO THE LDS church (small letters). HIS FIRST DUTY AS AN OFFICER OF THE LDS, will be to dedicate all his future public issues to the teachings of his religion, and will block any and all bills that will stand in the way of that accomplishment.

I don’t respect Mormonism. I am an ex-mormon. My family has been Mormon as long, if not longer than Mitt’s.

I base my understanding of Mormonism upon my own experiences. I don’t have experiences with the Jewish faith, nor with many individuals who are Jewish - there just aren’t very many in my Utah circle.

I would vote for Mark Levin, unless someone were to show me that he had amassed a HUGE fortune like Romney did using other people’s money who must give it to an organization to insure their eternal progression toward godhood all the while calling himself a self-made, savvy man.

Romney is pure balony. He is a myth the Mormon machine has created. Don’t believe me, I don’t care.

As odd as the oath is, it has translated into reality as conventional, Northeastern, me too, Republican politics in the case of Mitt Romney. I don’t see it as a factor.

“No respect for the faith of others?”

Apparently not, but it’s nothing new. Been some FReepers like that since I first joined up almost 9yrs ago and before that when I used to lurk.

If Mormons stopped claiming the name of “Christian” then the Christians would stop the onslaught against their teachings.

There was a time when Mormons dispised the name of Christian and were a peculiar people. Now LDSinc sees the marketing value of the name and is currently in pursuit of legitimacy.
