Havent you noticed that American males even hug more than women now days? I haven't noticed that, and I'm out and about all the time.
And I certainly don't.

Where are you hanging out? San Fran? In my neck of the woods, men shake hands. That is the only contact I see other than the occasional beer bottle over the head during heated bar discussions.

A man should never presume to attempt to hug a woman.
When my sleazy scummy grandfather said to my buxom new wife “I gotta get a hug!” and proceeded to do just that I realized implicitly why.
Things shift back and forth, I am noticing a trend back towards more masculine men being the fashionable ideal, not that I care - for the women I like and the women who like me - being a manly man has NEVER gone out of fashion!
