f you were trying to come up with the most atrocious candidate imaginable to go toe-to-toe with Barack Obama in 2012, you couldn't do much better than Mitt Romney. He was an unpopular moderate governor who lost 2 out of the 3 major elections he's run in and whose signature issue Romneycare is an enormous failure. Moreover, he's so uninspiring that he makes Bob Dole look like Ronald Reagan and that's before you consider his incessant flip-flopping that makes it impossible to really know where he stands on any issue.
Romney's candidacy also runs counter to almost every political trend in the book right now. He's the antithesis of everything the Tea Party stands for -- a moderate establishment-endorsed, principle-free Rockefeller Republican. On the other hand, he's like a bad guy straight out of central casting for the Occupy Wall Street crowd, a conscience-free 1 percenter who makes $10,000 bets and lectures the public about how corporations are people -- while hordes of poor and middle class Americans that he fired trail in his wake telling tales of woe about how Romney made their lives into a living hell.
At one time, I thought both Gingrich and Perry were more electable than Romney. I have, however, reassessed and now believe Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, and even Huntsman, who just left the race, are ALL more electable than Mitt. It's also worth noting that all of those candidates, including Huntsman, are more conservative than Romney. It's mind-boggling to consider the fact that if Romney wins, the conservative base will have chosen the guy behind Romneycare over the man behind the Contract with America, America's premier social conservative, and the best job-creating governor in America, all of whom would also be more electable.

The RNC knows EXACTLY what they are doing by having all of these open primaries.
They know they are getting the moderate Establishment guy.
When this election is over, I’m done with the GOP...if no viable Tea Party Party develops, I’m probably just finished with politics....waste of time.
killing babies,
restricting firearms for lawful citizens,
or robbing from Peter to pay Paul...
Is either an idiot or evil.
LOL! Based on your criteria, you wouldn't even vote for Reagan. LOL!
I've never said that I support Romney. I have said that if he is the nominee, I'll support him but never have I said I support him in the primaries.
From your posts, you appear to have principles so unrealistic that you wouldn't even vote for Reagan were he running in this election.
Reagan signed abortion legislation into law. Reagan signed onerous gun control legislation into law. Reagan robbed Peter to pay Paul. Or were you even aware of that? LOL!
Stop blaming Romney for you and you ilks failure to have thought ahead 10-20 years ago when voting that in 2012, presidential candidates would be needed.
I support the Tea Party but let's face facts. A large part of those Tea Party members turning out at rallies to demand less government are probably government employees and retirees.
They don't want less of the government they get, they just want less of the government someone else gets.
As a conservative, I cannot imagine a worse fate for America than four more years of unrestrained liberalism/socialism in our White House. That doesn’t mean that I’m willing to sell my soul for a liberal socialist who puts (R) after his name on the ballot to replace a liberal communist with a (D) after his name. I will vote in the primaries and in November, and I will vote to put the most conservative Congress possible in place, so that if we are stuck choosing between Romney and Obama, we will have some hope of surviving four more terrible years. As for my November vote for the White House, I will vote for a conservative. If I have to write in Palin/Newt or Cain/DeMint, I’ll do so, but I will not under any circumstances vote for Mitt. I understand the consequences of Obama holding power for four more years, but I also understand the consequences of a non-Obama cementing his socialist policies in place.
“I support the Tea Party but let’s face facts. A large part of those Tea Party members turning out at rallies to demand less government are probably government employees and retirees.”
Did you invent that “fact” just for this post, or is it a convenient story that you invented some time ago?
ROFLOL!!!
Wait a minute...you are HERE, on Free Republic.
And you believe THAT?
You're drinking, right? Making up stuff, right?
LOL!!!!!
Just an observation based on some people I know that attend.
Nope. Just commenting based on some people I know who are very active in the TP.
You know that, right?
"Mitt can't win and won't win.
He must be defeated now or the GOP is over.
Over.
Finito.
This election has already gone pear shaped"

For posterity. Sucks to be right.
For those blaming principled conservatives: You mad bro?
Conservatism didn't do this to us, liberalism did this.
More liberalism is not the answer.
It is the cause.
Conservatism is still the answer and for those who say otherwise I would remind you that Freerepublic is a conservative website and you might want to rethink your participation here.
Conservatism did not lose Tuesday night, it was reaffirmed.
A flaming liberal masquerading as a moderate conservative lost to a flaming Marxist.
Fight fire with fire and there is no greater consuming fire than the truth. The truth will expose the lie even if the MSM is repeating the lie.
Tough times are coming. Israel will no longer be restrained and will soon attack Iran. Gas prices will double and triple which will devastate shipping costs which will in turn plunge the US into unimaginable depression which will spread to the rest of the world.
Prepare for shortages.
Prepare for hardship.
Help others.
Be the ones others look to for leadership.
Have a plan.
They don't.
Demonstrate that conservative values are best.
Self reliance, rugged individualism, hard work.
I work at a food shelf and plan to help my neighbors all I can with the resources at my disposal. I can provide food and organize and provide neighborhood security.
I suspect my lesbian neighbors voted for Obama but one of them is having health problems so I raked their lawn and plan to snow blow their driveway and sidewalk even if gas is $9 a gallon. I want to win them over for Christ and in doing so communicate conservatism.
I am a conservative because I am a disciple of Christ. I can do no other.
My principles are not disposable when inconvenient.
I see opportunity ahead to win the hearts and minds of the lost and deceived.
If you want to blame me for Obama winning so be it, but I blame liberalism, both in society and within our ranks.
