Poll shows Perry losing Texas, in third place

From Public Policy Polling, this is really bad news for Rick Perry -- although at this point it cannot be unexpected:

Rick Perry's Presidential campaign is doing about as bad in Texas now as it is everywhere else in the country. When PPP last polled the state in September he was at 49%, leading Mitt Romney by 39 points. Now Perry's support has declined by 31 points, leaving him in 3rd place at 18%. Mitt Romney at 24% and Newt Gingrich at 23% lead the way with Rick Santorum at 15%, Ron Paul at 12%, and Buddy Roemer at 0% rounding out the field behind Perry.

What might be most shocking on this poll is that Romney edges Perry 46-45 if Republican voters had to pick just between the two of them. When we asked that identical question four monhs ago Perry led Romney 72-18. There's been a 55 point shift in Romney's direction.

Mitt will win big in Florida, that’s my prediction and I will tell you the reason. Snowbirds.... people that left their crappy states up north after they screwed them up and came down here to enjoy our beautiful beaches and weather. Those are the ones that will give Florida to Mittens. I’m sure some are just voting for anybody but Barry the Marxist Kenyan and they want to vote for whoever they think will beat him, but still, I blame the snowbirds mainly.

I'm concerned, because those are the same folks that helped Florida go for Obama in 2008.

You can insult me all you want, but that won’t pull Perry’s support out of the abyss.

Did you ever wonder maybe there’s a reason (several, actually) that conservatives just aren’t that into Perry?

I’m hoping that Perry would have dropped out and endorsed Santorum before then.

Yes we know people aren’t interested in Jobs, Stable Housing market. Employment growth. Freedom and public officials that realize they work for US. Not the other way around.

But hey that’s just Texans.

The rest like fluff and being lied to by the usual suspects.

Not really... the SE coast is a lot of NY’ers, NJ’ers and the Jewish people, they vote Dem no matter who is running. The Kenyan got some of the Republican vote and lots of independents and libertarian votes. He won’t get that this time. I say no way does the Kenyan win FL. He will get the black vote, but most probably won’t waste their time voting, they didn’t get his stash or any free stuff like he promised.
I say whatever R wins, easily takes FL. Hope I am right. I haven’t heard one person say they were voting for him, even people that screwed up last time and did.

If you're insulted that's your problem. Just calling a spade a spade and you are part of the problem. Never occurred to me what others problems are with backing Gov Perry; figured it would all come out in the wash but then we have a-holes actually gloating and pinging just to get your jollies.

Come on, you can tell me, you're really behind Romney aren't you? It's ok...just exclaim it on the open forum like you did with your attempt at ridiculing Gov Perry...I won't tell anyone...I promise.

Gardasil
In-state tuition
La Raza supporter
Said he wants open borders
Former Democrat, worked for Al Gore
Can’t even remember his own policies
Didn’t want to run, until Anita and big money donors convinced him to.
Would lose a debate against Basil Marceaux

And he’s in 3rd place in his home state.

I’ll never vote for Romney. The only people helping Romney are the Perry supporters who throw their votes and cash away to a dead campaign walking.

Oh, and just FYI, back when Perry was the frontrunner all his supporters did nothing but bash supporters of other candidates and tell them to get out of the race, and also used personal attacks against me and many others. Saying people who weren’t for Perry hated Texas, wanted women to die of cancer, were racist KKK members, etc. So don’t act like you’re an innocent victim. My “gloating” was fairly innocent compared to that.

Everything I posted was factual (well, except the Basil Marceaux thing) and has nothing to do with Ron Paul.

I hope you're right, but Bush only won by 537 votes in 2000. In 2008, it went for Obama. That's not a strongly conservative state.

Perry also called conservatives “heartless”.

When he suggested Americans don't have a heart regarding illegals, he might as well suggested turning the Alamo into a prenatal clinic for illegal aliens. I didn't need to hear another word from this guy.

That was it for me.

He obviously never noticed Americans have been jack-hammered and economically gang raped by millions of Mexicans, who have absolutely no repect for our rules, laws or borders.

I don't like Perry, but give me a break. Perry doesn't have enough supporters to throw the race to Romney. If Perry dropped out right now, Newt and Santorum would get a whopping few points apiece, assuming that Perry supporters didn't go to Willard or RuPaul. If Willard wins, it'll be by more than a few points.

Our bigger problem is that South Carolina is an open primary and too many people, including Gingrich and Perry as well as the MSM, are making it out to be too important.

I've never seen so many panicked people over a race that has awarded Romney less 2.5% of the total delegates he needs.

I experienced this as well, although to their credit, the few I directly addressed when they were pulling this crap apologized or backed down. One was banned for being a jerk in general, and he went on to trash Free Republic and Jim Robinson, but for the most part, no harm, no foul - they got caught up in the heat of the moment of supporting a candidate in first place.

I’m a Newtist, and didn’t know Perry from Adam until he entered the race last year. First impression...auuughhhhhhhh :(

But he grows on you. I think he had problems of some sort after back surgery, and the timing was just wrong for him to enter the presidential race while physically under par.

Since then, though, he has gotten better. I like the way he is able to pivot in a discussion that has gone into the weeds; he is able to snap it to a more interesting and appropriate pathway, and he seems to have a knack for knowing just when to do it. The man will never be a great rhetorician but we now see some of the skills that brought him to high office.

Besides that, his conservative credentials are substantial and IMO more so than Santorum’s. Santorum just hasn’t the heft, the alpha gene if you will; and his track record is rather spotty. Perry, otoh, has been running TEXAS.

No, it’s not, but it’s strongly anti-Barry the Kenya=n state now. Let’s see if I am right and hope the ABO attitude doesn’t change between now and November.
