Should We Worry That Mitt Romney Hasn’t Been Fully Vetted?
Red State ^ | today | Brookhaven

Posted on 01/17/2012 9:04:37 AM PST by Brookhaven

It’s only in the last few weeks that people have started to examine Mitt Romney in detail, despite the fact that he has been running for president for five years.

For the first time, people are starting to discuss the specifics of what he did at Bain.

After 5 years of running for president, the question of why Mitt Romney has never released any of his tax returns has finally been raised. Releasing your tax returns is pro forma for most candidates–no big deal. Mitt Romney seems to be protecting his tax return information like a bulldog protecting a bone.

The GOP candidates have been debating constantly since May of 2011, yet it wasn’t until January of 2012 that someone asked specific, probing questions about Romney’s time as governor of Massachusetts. Other than RomneyCare, what does the average voter know about what Mitt Romney did as governor? Really, what? Name one thing you know Romney did as governor other than sign RomneyCare into law.

The main argument for nominating Mitt Romney is that he is the most electable candidate. But, part of being the most electable means there are no ticking time bombs in your past. In other words, you’ve been fully vetted.

One of Mitt Romney’s primary campaign strategies seems to be to avoid the vetting process at all cost. The phrase “Mittness Protection Program” is a joke, but it represents an underlying truth: Mitt Romney has tried to keep anyone from learning too much about him. He has refused to release his records, holds highly orchestrated public appearances that–like President Obama’s–seem to cross the line from orchestrated to scripted, and he has avoided interviews (at least the ones where he would receive tough questions) to the point that interviewers started to point out on their shows that they could get every GOP candidate but Mitt Romney to come on for an interview.

Whether there are any ticking time bombs in Romney’s past is unknown at this point, because his past hasn’t been fully vetted. One thing we do know for sure: we need to find out now, not wait until after he’s nominated. Because, you can rest assured that whatever Mitt Romney may be keeping undercover by hindering the vetting process now certainly will come out after he secures the GOP nomination, and it will be used by the Democrats to attack Mitt Romney in the general election.

When did the vetting of obama happen?

The hell with mitt, he has {I think} a real birth certificate and I think he is a natural born citizen.

Except for Rupaul, mittens is my last pubbie choice, but I'm more worried about the marxist that is in the white hut right now.

Seems that conservatives have perfected the art of hypocrisy.

The failed yet oddly continuing attack on Romney’s wealth goes on while we deliberately ignore Green Gingrich’s promise to incentivize flex fuel vehicles, create a whole new federal environmental agency, and a new endorsement from a pro amnesty tea party hating hispanic group.

Looks like the democrats have already won.

Seems that conservatives have perfected the art of hypocrisy.

Gingrich pushing the impeachment of Clinton because of his adulterous affair with a very young staffer, while he was engaged in an adulterous affair of his own with a very young staffer, brings new depths to the term hypocrisy.

It is interesting to note that Romney was a Bishop and a Stake President in his church and particularly in the latter office, the LDS church investigates those so ordained to assure there are no moral or legal skeletons in their past.

However, it must be noted, that much of the candidates “worthiness” for the offices of bishop or stake president is based on self-reporting and self-judging.

Heads up, Freepers. I Challenge you.
There’s one more debate before the SC vote.

They’ve got Mitt on the ropes, weaseling about releasing his tax forms - let’s expand on that with further secrecy protection he’s spent big bucks on.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/06/us-usa-campaign-romney-computers-idUSTRE7B500X20111206

I just sent this message below to Newts web site - (go to Newt.org, scroll down the the very bottom and click on ‘contact us’ - copy and paste the following note below and send. If they get several of he same message - they will be far more likely to show it to Newt - and if he runs with it in the next/last debate, it will hit Mittens right between the eyes. He’ll stand there like a stuttering deer in the headlights. (My background is in advertising, journalism and campaign management.)

Pin Mitt on his secrecy - slam dunk

Now that they’ve got the refusal to release his tax returns - slam dunk him in the next debate with THIS question - which no one seems to realize.

*************

Copy, paste, send. Let’s deep six this plastic man.

“Why did you spend $100,000 to bury your official records as governor?”

“What are you not proud of, Governor? Don’t you think the American people have a right to know what you did in the governors office before they elect you to the highest office in the land?”

“It’s as if you’re in a ‘Mittness Protection Plan.”

Take 2 minutes and send this to Newt, bottom of page - ‘contact us” email all your friends and ask them too - if Newt gets it into the debate then media will report it - and the voters may put him over the top. It’s our survival that is at stake. (Like Newt said: ‘I can’t do it alone. I need you to help.’) We have to do more than sit back and opine - do it NOW - 2 little minutes out of your day -

I hadn't even thought about that. Its just seems unlikely that conservatives will be willing to speak out against a left leaning president Gingrich if they aren't even willing to acknowledge his far left tendencies as a candidate.

Would someone without an ax to grind please explain this obsession with Mitt’s tax returns?

We already know he is wealthy.
We already know he is not under indictment for tax fraud.

If his filing and claims were not entirely in compliance with the law we all know the IRS would be all over him.

Seriously - please explain what is to be gained, other than a hope that a few nitpicking details might be used to embarass him.

Aren’t there much more significant issues at hand than Mitt’s taxes.

And Gingrich will take a beating in the green energy scam.

Not to mention his personal baggage. I was just reading about him being a deadbeat dad.

There would be a neverending drip drab from his time at Bain, especially involving all the companies they acquired that went bankrupt. There would be complaints that the Bain business model of driving companies into debt so they could pay Bain dividends provided Bain with unjust enrichment at the expense of the fiscal health of those companies. There will be managers in those companies who complain Bain did a terrible job managing them and drove them into bankruptcy. And there will be the personal stories of the workers who were laid off.

The question is why does Romney allow it to continue to be an issue when he could finish it by releasing. Something he is willing to do but (for some unfathomable reason) not until April.

I believe it. I also know that it relates to 1980. 1980! According to CNN and other DNC-controlled media, shortly after the infamous and wrongly-reported cancer ward visit, Newt stopped paying alimony and child support, and Jackie had to take Newt to court to get him to contribute.

Funny how neither Jackie Gingrich Cushman nor Jackie Battley Gingrich are confirming this.

If this is an example of the damaging oppo weaponry to be launched by the DNC against Newt, I fart in their general direction.

This will have NO legs in 2012. None at the all. The public will laugh.
