While Newt Gingrich campaign staffers are calling such talk premature, there are indications that should the former House Speaker bow out of the GOP race, he would throw his support behind rising Rick Santorum in a last-ditch effort to stop frontrunner Mitt Romney.
Multiple South Carolina sources affiliated with Santorum's campaign said Gingrich's campaign has contacted Santorum's campaign to discuss endorsing the former Pennsylvania senator should he drop out.
One source, speaking to Patch on the condition they not be identified, paraphrased Gingrich's stance as delivered by high level campaign staff this way: "If it can't be me, I want it to be Rick Santorum.""
Gingrich is looking at finishing as low as fifth place in New Hampshire and is currently polling at under 20 percent (good for third place) in South Carolina, according to rolling averages from Real Clear Politics.
Still, high-ranking officials within Santorum's South Carolina campaign don't foresee Gingrich stalling out before the primaries in the Palmetto State, where he once commanded an imposing lead in the polls.

That’s what I thought and somewhat obvious but wanted to cancel out those words, nonetheless. ;)
didja meet newt at the polling place in the town of Merrimack?
I have a gut feeling it will be Santorum with Newt in a strategic cabinet position.Palin as energy secretary.
Santorum/Martinez 2012!
About the only category you could claim Bain Capital to be under would be the moniker “corporate raiders”. Which is a totally bogus occupy wallstreet type of claim. Bain Capital goes into failing companies, tries to make them profitable and salvage the company. Does that mean some people get laid off? Yup. But in my book, if you lay off 100 people to save 500 people’s jobs, guess what? You didn’t fire 100 people, you saved 500 people’s jobs because the company would have went under without Bain Capital’s infusion of money and re-org.
This is the essense of free market. A private company, putting up private equity into another company in order to make it profitable. Let the market decide what company gets saved and what company doesn’t. Not government. Methinks you’ve been watching too much of Wallstreet, Wallstreet 2 and Pretty Woman. In the world of Hollywood, these type of people are evil capitalists that are sponging off of the poor working schlub.
Perhaps you are more in tune to animals than humans. Children need love - are you saying the father doesn’t love his children equally as the mother? Both are important - no one holds a higher place for children. You keep your animal opinion, I’ll keep my human opinion.
She had complimentary words for everyone except barry - you made it sound like she only complimented Santorum. Stay focused - I didn’t say she endorsed anyone - I said Todd did. Like I said, keep it honest.
Fathers and mothers have different functions in a child’s life. Even godless sociologists have found that.
They are not the same. If you want to mess up a child, try to change it.
Look at Chastity Bono as an example.
No—in Bedford.
Did I not say BOTH are important. You are reaching the bottom of the barrel when you drag chaz into the scenerio. She had both parents and one dies and that made her that way? LOL!
Sarah and Todd work beautifully together in caring for their family and their family business and that seems to cause angst for some. I laugh when some try to bring the godless into proof of anything when they believe the same sex marrying is fine and they can raise a child just as well as a mother and father.
Some poster here suggested that Santorum 'dissed' Sarah Palin....
I responded that Sarah Palin was in Santorum's camp....(or at least had very nice words for him, about him)
How you extrapolated that one little post into what you're saying I'm saying.....I don't know.
Let's stay focused indeed!

From Palin’s last few commentaries it is clear that she is not what some on this forum have painted her to be.She is not catty, childish and jealous like they have acted. She supported Bachmann,Perry,Gingrich and made that clear. She is an outstanding lady that is worried about our country. But I could give a flip who she, her husband or anyone endorses. This country is in dire straits. She is new to the national politics and has made mistakes in ever supporting Romney. She has seen the light. She is brilliant and I share her politics. But the dire straits we would be in with Obama leaves me supporting Santorum or Gingrich.I don’t care if Palin or anybody else agrees.I make up my own mind I don’t hang on her every word to decide who to back.
I believe Palin also supports Santorum or whoever can get the nom dismissing Romney Obama Jr. and beat Obama
When did she support Romney???
There were numerous FR threads on this.
Huntsman is not an idiot! He may not be many people’s best choice for president, or not considered to be the purest conservative, but he was a good, decent, conservative man and governor!
Are you freaking kidding me.
First, no need to snap.... if I had knows THAT was the story you were referring, I wouldn’t have asked. You basically LIED and made it sound as though she has endorsed Mitt’s Presidential campaign. No way an off the cuff “sounds good” comment was an endorsement of ANYTHING...please....a year and a half ago?? She was obviously screwing with the media’s head and apparently, yours too.
I said that in the past she has made mistakes and is now getting the hang of national politics.I didn’t lie.
LOL that you think Palin was screwing with the medias head when she said that.
A Quinniapac poll shows Santorum and Obama in a statisical tie in Florida, and as we all know FL is a swing state. By the time the General Election comes around, and Santorum gets even more name recognition, I believe Santorum would win against Obama by a landslide.
