Hmmm... Mr. Reaganaut, on what Presidential issue do President Reagan and Mitt Romney hold opposite views?

- - - - -
It’s Mrs. And lets see...

abortion

guns

Obamacare (you can’t think Reagan would have supported that)

gay marriage (not an issue back then but again not something Reagan would have supported)

gays in the military

I can keep going. Mitt is the antithesis of Reagan.

Sorry, Mrs. Reaganaut...:)

Abortion: Seems to have had the same type of position as Reagan

Guns: You forget that President Reagan supported the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban - just like Mitt. Not to mention signing the 1986 bill that banned automatic weapons. Looking at Mitt's positions - they don't seem that different. I think you forget the real positions of Reagan...

Obamacare: Mitt is on the record as wanting to repeal Obamacare.

Gay marriage: So pushing for a Federal law recognizing marriage as one man and one woman means gay marriage supporter?

Gays in the military: He supports don't ask, don't tell. The same policy as President Reagan.

Antithesis? So how would he be different than a President who gave us amnesty, who increased taxes, who exploded the Federal budget, who compromised with Tip O'Neill and Scoop Jackson, who gave us Sandra Day O'Connor?

I think you need to just go look at the candidate himself rather than listen to the mob here, and go and re-evaluate who President Reagan was.

Is Mitt my guy? Nope - I was for Cain, and now am leaning to Perry. But Mitt is MILES away from Obama, and really not all that different in most positions than Reagan if you look at it critically.

Yes, Reagan did sign an abortion law as governor of California, and has been called a hypocrite for saying,

"I have often said that when we talk about abortion, we are talking about two lives — the life of the mother and the life of the unborn child. Why else do we call a pregnant woman a mother?"

However, the 'liberal' law he signed amended California law to allow abortions in cases of rape or incest, when a doctor deemed that the birth was likely to impair the physical or mental health of the mother, or when there was 'substantial risk' that the child would be born deformed. That would be considered a 'restrictive' law today. Furthermore, Reagan claimed to have regretted the law, and that doctors abused it to perform far more abortions than intended by the Legislature. So, is that pro-abortion or anti-abortion?
