I’m no Romney fan, but is this really the basis of political discourse? I’d rather see conservatives press him to vow some specific changes to the mess that is our budget. And make us believe them.
While that may be true, and it is, this story is all over Facebook....and people do NOT like it.
Not to mention that it has been discussed to death in countless threads over the years.
I am with you, I do not think it is any big whoop.
The dog was not harmed. It was fine. I oppose torturing of animals but they are not on a par with people.
Consider how they are shipped on airlines, like baggage. Allowance is made for temperature and potty/water needs, and up the conveyor belt they go.
Not ok for people. Fine for animals.
Okay....your point is not lost on me.
But allow me to present my argument.
This “kennel” thing is really a big animal carrier. Any of us who have pets know what these things are. These are not “kennels”, like stationary buildings as we consider.
As to being “airtight”, well how on earth could that be? The animal needs air to breathe so that description has got to be dishonest.
Now it could be that this animal carrier didn’t have any kind of openings like many animal carriers do as most need some sort of door type of thing to, ahem, insert the animal into the carrier. Most of these door entries have bars or some sort of screening to allow air to enter, of course, but to also allow humans to look into the thing to see how the pet is doing.
So I don’t get Romney’s description of “air tight” but maybe he means the thing had no kind of opening. As to how they actually put the dog in the thing, well that’s another question.
Friend, first thing I think, and I’m not a millionaire running for president, as I arrange for this thing to be strapped onto the roof of my car, with my dog inside, is how this thing is going to terrify the poor pet.
It ain’t rocket science.
And indeed, as this anecdote goes, Romney did discover after many miles and evidently checking on the poor pooch, the scared dog had crapped all inside the carrier. Crapping all over the place is how dogs express terror so, indeed, my initial instinct as I asserted as would be my concern before even battening down that first strap was correct. Anybody owns a dog would know that putting it in a carrier on top of the roof of a speeding car would terrify it.
But hey, we all make mistakes though this is a really dumb one for a millionaire wants to be president to make but we’ll allow.
But he LAUGHS ABOUT IT!
Man I’d be so filled with remorse that I’d so stupidly put my dog through such a thing the last thing I’d do would be to laugh.
Maybe it’s nothing but by me it really says something about this very smart man who wants to be president that a)he was dumb enough to do such a thing and b)after learning that he made a mistake, which we all do, he laughed at the terror his poor helpless dog went through for so many miles.
Goodness...Newt ought to make a campaign commercial showing a terrified dog and a laughing Romney.
Americans understand such as their beloved dogs.
Yes,P.O.E,because it shows a gross lack of both common sense judgement and compassion towards a living creature,a family pet, in a presidential candidate.
I don’t want a president who puts the family dog on the roof of the car for a trip and thinks that’s okay.
Yes, it seems like a silly thing to bring up but, like Bill Clinton, the episode seems to speak to his character. We all know that psychiatrists point to the abuse of animals by children as an early indicator of someone who lacks empathy and compassion. Treating his dog this way doesn’t speak well for how he treats those around him. We’re all just speculating, here, but if he is indifferent to the suffering of an animal riding on the roof of his car, what regard does he have for the average citizen?
