This won’t make me popular but I read somewhere that more Gen Xers believe in UFOs than they will get SS. I am one of them. The system is completely broke and the best way is to give people an opt out option, don’t pay in, don’t collect no matter what.
SS does need to be cut, but this wasn’t a wise move on Santorum’s part. Too many people believe they deserve it, because they were FORCED into paying into it. They were scammed. It isn’t sustainable in the least. Nevertheless, it is a sacred cow for both sides.
Let's cut the confiscatory SS taxes and allow/guide workers and their employers to invest in stock market indices. I wish my SS contributions had been invested so! I'd be on the French Riviera now.
Many seniors depend on it. I know a woman in her 70's that is nearly blind now. She worked her whole life and get $900 a month. A local "neighbor" fund run by the newspaper bought fuel oil for her or she'd have no heat. And Santorum thinks she needs to "share the pain"? She's barely eating as her taxes went up on her house. She doesn't have anything left to sacrifice.
