Santorum: Trim Social Security now even if painful

KEENE, N.H. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum called Friday for immediate cuts to Social Security benefits, risking the wrath of older voters and countless others who balk at changes to the entitlement program.

"We can't wait 10 years," even though "everybody wants to," Santorum told a crowd while campaigning in New Hampshire and looking to set himself apart from his Republican rivals four days before the New Hampshire primary.

Most of his opponents have advocated phasing in a reduction and say immediate cuts would be too big a shock to current and soon-to-be retirees.

Absolutely on the EPA.

There has been a suggestion for sometime that SS needs to be privatized. I thought that sounded good.

None of our precious seniors who helped build this great nation should be made to suffer.

Cut back on medicaid and all the taxpayer money that goes to supporting illegal aliens.

Cut back the billions Omuslim has been paying out to the Islamic sh*tholes:

Obamas 2009 Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Pandemic Flu was revised and passed by the full committee.
It gives billions http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2009/05/1...
of U.S. taxpayer dollars to countries and entities that support Sharia law and/or harbor, hide and support those who want to destroy the U.S. and our allies.
Read the summary from David Obeys office that was quietly released last week with nary a word from any media.

$3.6 billion, matching the request, to expand and improve capabilities of the Afghan security forces

$400 million, as requested, to build the counterinsurgency capabilities of the Pakistani security forces

Afghanistan:$1.52 billion,$86 million above the request

West Bank and Gaza:$665 million in bilateral economic, humanitarian, and security assistance for the West Bank and Gaza

Jordan:$250 million,$250 million above the request, including $100 million for economic and $150 million for security assistance

Egypt:$360 million,$310 million above the request, including $50 million for economic assistance,$50 million for border security, and $260 million for security assistance

Pakistan:$1.9 billion,$591 million above the request

Iraq:$968 million,$336 million above the request

Oversight:$20 million,$13 million above the request, to expand oversight capacity of the State Department, USAID, and the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan to review programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq
Lebanon:$74 million

International Food Assistance:$500 million,$200 million above the request, for PL 480 international food assistance to alleviate suffering during the global economic crisis

Refugee Assistance:$343 million,$50 million above the request, including humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency programs in the West Bank and Gaza is limited to $119 million (Note: Gaza = Hamas)

Disaster Assistance:$200 million to avert famines and provide life-saving assistance during natural disasters and for internally displaced people around the world, including Somalia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, the Middle East and South Asia

Peacekeeping:$837 million for United Nations
peacekeeping operations, including an expanded mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a new mission in Chad and the Central African Republic

Department of Justice:$17 million, matching the request, for counter-terrorism activities and to provide training and assistance for the Iraqi criminal justice system
Obama gives your tax dollars to rebuild Muslim mosques around the world
http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/... #

ACCORDING TO THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION WILL GIVE AWAY NEARLY $6 MILLION OF AMERICAN TAX DOLLARS TO RESTORE 63 HISTORIC AND CULTURAL SITES, INCLUDING ISLAMIC MOSQUES AND MINARETS, IN 55 NATIONS. See the State Department document here.

And THAT’S just the tip of the iceberg.
THIS will blow your mind!!

They should have 2010 up, but they don’t. That’s where you’ll find Obama’s largesse towards Muslim countries really go off the charts.

Hey. One of the few things Rick said that I agree with. If he keeps this up, I may come around to supporting him. Everyone shares the pain — including seniors.

Is he sharing the pain by giving up his government pension?

Yes, yes, yes... Santorum is FINISHED!!!

In a different way, I think Santorum just had his Howard Dean moment.... it is over for him.

The feds take money from your state and congressional district. Your congressman and senator put earmarks into legislation to get some of that money back. Anything wrong with that?

Dumb move, and I had hopes Santorum would sustain and build upon his success in Iowa.

It’s puzzling that everyone wants to pick on SS, a program retirees have paid into for decades, while saying nothing about the far more expensive welfare programs such as medicaid, housing programs, food stamps and all those programs where the recipients of benefits never paid a penny into them, and most likely paid little if anything in federal income taxes.

Not impressed with just one more politician picking on SS while ignoring more expensive welfare programs which have no dedicated funding source.

The last people to see cuts should be those who were forced by law to contribute to the government run Ponzi Scheme.

First boot the illegals, the immigrants who never paid into the system, the dopers, druggies and other addicts, the too-fat-to-get-off-their-asses, the scammers and moochers, the brood sows and pimps, and the mysterious back injuries that go away as soon as the disability checks start rolling in.

Then do another analysis of the program and determine its viability before cutting people who actually paid into social security their entire working lives.

I understand why the SS should be privatized but I’m too old to have an opinion on that being done any time soon.

The dems make it out to be such a negative option and the young haven’t got the numbers to sway the votes to help themselves.

Truly a tragedy in the making!

“Sorry, but most Freepers are Boomers and many like me are already collecting S/S. Your ideas won’t play well here. Maybe the freepers who are not Boomers should start their own FR auxiliary site?”

And that’s the problem. Everybody wants spending cut, except for what they think should go to them.

Cut all government spending.

I’m sure tricky ricky Santorum will try and walk back the statement, but the damage is probably done. Cutting, cutting government pork and waste is the only way to revive this country, not doing it on the backs of seniors.

Exactly right!

Payers must be protected first and foremost!

The rest need to suffer for their robbery.

Isn’t the problem that everyone who puts in money wants their “fair share” back? Just considering ‘administrative costs’ it’s obvious that can’t possibly happen in terms of real value.

I believe those that paid into SS should get their money no matter what is done. That money is theirs.

Maybe younger people could be given a choice.

Still don’t get it, huh? I suppose if you had invested with Bernie Madoff or with MF Global you wouldn’t mind getting robbed.

Social Security was/is a compulsory investment plan, not a frivolous government expenditure like foo stams.
