“iranian fishermen are not our enemy...we saved the crew of a fishing vessel.”

Exactly. If the ship was North Korean, the government would shoot them all to prevent their spreading seditious lies about American generosity. It may happen anyway.

It is a shame that the ship involved is the latest USS Kidd, and not DDG-993, the last one. The older Kidd Class Destroyers were heavily modified Spruance Class Destroyers, essentially Flight 1 Ticonderoga Cruisers without the Aegis system, which were ordered by the Shah of Iran. After the revolution, this class was finished and kept by the US Navy. The irony of a ship originally built for the Shah and named Kouroush (Cyrus), rescuing Iranian sailors would have been lovely.

DDG-993 is now ROCS Tso Ying (DDG-1803)

Yeah it is strange. We saved them but they will be our enemy again tomorrow........................................ In my short span of life on this planet I have learned that today’s enemies become our friends the day after tomorrow. One of my closer friends was in the Soviet Navy during the cold war. How about those dirty Japs and murdering Germans? I found friends from both of those countries after the war. I wear a shirt and I drink coffee that came from in Vietnam. I have Iranian friends living here, they are just like us. It saddens me to think that they can’t do anything about getting rid of the controlling Arab mullah gangsters. They want their country purged of them. Obama has his head up his butt when it comes to helping the Iranian decedents.

No decent sailor is ever going to abandon a fellow mariner in distress — even an enemy ................................. OH??? Do you know why the German Navy Admiral Raeder got off lightly at Nuremberg? There was some interesting testimony from American Admirals. It appeared that there were quite a few indecent American sailors in the Pacific Theater.

There are many good people here from Iran.

Let me put it this way: Does everybody in the U.S. agree with Obama?

Amen, brother! That was one of the first things the Navy taught me, you might blow the enemy ship out of the water but you don’t leave survivors floating around and you don’t leave them in captivity by pirates.

Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd was commander of Battleship Division One and flew his flag from the Arizona. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, Kidd rushed to the bridge and was trying to expedite the sortieing of his ships when the ship exploded. The only thing ever found of him was his Navy Academy class ring, which was fused into the bulkhead by the heat of the blast and resulting fire.

The other ships in the Kidd-class were named after Admirals Callaghan and Scott, who were killed during the Night Battle of Guadalcanal (Admiral Scott was killed by not-so-friendly fire from Admiral Callaghan's flagship) and Admiral Chandler, who was killed when a kamikaze struck his heavy cruiser flagship off the Philippines.

At first I thought they were Iranian military sailors.
The sea has rules of honor.

In the heat of battle, lots of things happen that shouldn't happen. It's nothing to be proud of. Looking back afterwards, I'm sure quite a few had regrets.

Honor applies between enemy warriors also. US naval personnel are not thugs or executioners. The belief that such behavior is inexcusable is part of what they’re fighting for — I hope.
