One time I watched a woman deal with her barking dog. She looked at it and said “Quiet, or you’re getting a bath”.
The dog didn’t make another sound.
Our cat did something similar. 24 hours after having surgery (declawing, I think), she had not had a thing to drink, so I called the vet. The vet said if she didn’t drink something in the next hour, to bring her in. I relayed the message to our cat, who promptly walked over to her water bowl and drank up!
