“She’s full of it! So far Obamacare has cost over 100,000 jobs in the healthcare insurance industry.”

It's had an incredibly significant effect on every aspect of healthcare and related industries. Pharma laid off a ton of workers since 2008, with Merck cutting 13,000 jobs in 2011 alone. From 2008 through the first quarter of 2011 over 161,000 jobs were lost from pharma, and that doesn't begin to address the job losses from medical imaging companies, device companies, and a ton of other industries centered around healthcare.

Pharma and biomedical industries have been one of the biggest success stories in the American economy, and we have led the world in these sectors. So, what do we do? We decimate those sectors with government regulation and uncertainty while propping up union led (bled) companies like GM.

That doesn't even begin to tell the story of what we will lose in the ability to innovate and bring new things from these sectors to the world. Why would anyone get a Ph.D. in science when there aren't going to be any jobs? What do we do when every cash strapped company starts doing all of their R&D overseas - in China? Why spend years and lots of tuition money to be a physician when you are going to wind up a government worker with little self-determinism - and with the government bureaucrats telling you what you can and cannot give your patients?

This witch once commented about how not having to worry about paying for health care would allow people to go out and do ‘creative’ things, like write books and paint pictures. Typical San Francisco liberal take on the world. None of it matters as long as she can be an ‘important’ person.
