Rick Santorum is a devout Roman Catholic and good family man. I do not know if this custom is common in the Catholic faith, but it was, as you say, common in the past particularly among the immigrant communities of eastern Europe, who make up a large part of our Pittsburgh area ethnic pie.

Colmes is a total sleezebag for ridiculing Santorum in this manner and casts his lot with the same type of lowlife who make sport of regularly ridiculing other people's religious faith on this forum and elsewhere.

My family members who did this were Episcopalians and Methodists of Dutch, Welsh, German and English stock. Their ancestors had been in America since the 1600s.
