Seems to me that it is all about high volume at low margin and that is always a recipe for poor customer service. No matter what you buy there, they try to sell you an extended warranty on it and they get visibly perturbed when you turn it down. That must be where all their profit (and commission) comes from.
It's a sad statement about America. Consumers want to pay the lowest price possible so that forces companies to operate on such a slim margin that the only way for them to stay in business is to cut their operating expenses to the bone. That means low-paid, unmotivated employees and a near-total absence of customer service.
When it comes to promotions through the ranks, they don't do that which is why they really do need to use security to weed the hires.
This is a vicious circle that will take them down.
Since I have become an Apple convert, I pretty much get my stuff at the Apple Store, instead of Best Buy. It’s nice to be able to have them fix my computer, and get it back the next day.
Look back at Ray Kurzweil’s predictions on singularity.
every product that displays or plays media sold at Best Buy currently, Within 5 years we could see being a single device in multiple sizes sold as a loss leader for Itunes, Netflix, and Rhapsody, (and their competitors once NFLX goes B/K) etc.
NO more desktops, laptops, tablets, cellphones, in-car stereos, etc.
Just a single device you carry with you that has access to your entire cloud of data. Wireless connection, fast recharge batteries, and a basic commodity with very low profit margins, or maybe the electronics sold as loss leaders for subscription services...
We’re looking at universal wireless A/V standards, we are already looking at the sale of a LCD panel as a generic zero profit commodity, that leaves Best Buy with home appliances for the kitchen.
Not only is Best Buy going to lose out to Newegg, I think Best Buy will lose out to Spotify, Rhapsody and Itunes, and the local cable and satellite TV companies.
