Anti-Islam filmmaker in hiding after protests
http://www.newsday.com/ ^ | 9/12/12 | SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER (Associated Press)

An Israeli filmmaker based in California went into hiding Tuesday after his movie attacking Islam’s prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya, where one American was killed.
Speaking by phone from an undisclosed location, writer and director Sam Bacile remained defiant, saying Islam is a cancer and that the 56-year-old intended his film to be a provocative political statement condemning the religion.
Protesters angered over Bacile’s film opened fire on and burned down the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, killing an American diplomat on Tuesday. In Egypt, protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy in Cairo and replaced an American flag with an Islamic banner.
“This is a political movie,” said Bacile. “The U.S. lost a lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we’re fighting with ideas.”
Bacile, a California real estate developer who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, said he believes the movie will help his native land by exposing Islam’s flaws to the world.
“Islam is a cancer, period,” he said repeatedly, his solemn voice thickly accented.
The two-hour movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” cost $5 million to make and was financed with the help of more than 100 Jewish donors, said Bacile, who wrote and directed it.
The film claims Muhammad was a fraud. An English-language 13-minute trailer on YouTube shows an amateur cast performing a wooden dialogue of insults disguised as revelations about Muhammad, whose obedient followers are presented as a cadre of goons.
It depicts Muhammad as a feckless philanderer who approved of child sexual abuse, among other overtly insulting claims that have caused outrage.
Muslims find it offensive to depict Muhammad in any manner, let alone insult the prophet.

Statement on the Death of American Personnel in Benghazi, Libya
State Dept ^

Press Statement Hillary Rodham Clinton Secretary of State Washington, DC
September 12, 2012
It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the death of four American personnel in Benghazi, Libya yesterday. Among them were United States Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and Foreign Service Information Management Officer, Sean Smith. We are still making next of kin notifications for the other two individuals. Our hearts go out to all their families and colleagues.
A 21 year veteran of the Foreign Service, Ambassador Stevens died last night from injuries he sustained in the attack on our office in Benghazi.
I had the privilege of swearing in Chris for his post in Libya only a few months ago. He spoke eloquently about his passion for service, for diplomacy and for the Libyan people. This assignment was only the latest in his more than two decades of dedication to advancing closer ties with the people of the Middle East and North Africa which began as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. As the conflict in Libya unfolded, Chris was one of the first Americans on the ground in Benghazi. He risked his own life to lend the Libyan people a helping hand to build the foundation for a new, free nation. He spent every day since helping to finish the work that he started. Chris was committed to advancing Americas values and interests, even when that meant putting himself in danger.
Sean Smith was a husband and a father of two, who joined the Department ten years ago. Like Chris, Sean was one of our best. Prior to arriving in Benghazi, he served in Baghdad, Pretoria, Montreal, and most recently The Hague.
All the Americans we lost in yesterdays attacks made the ultimate sacrifice. We condemn this vicious and violent attack that took their lives, which they had committed to helping the Libyan people reach for a better future.
Americas diplomats and development experts stand on the front lines every day for our country. We are honored by the service of each and every one of them.

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Algiers is warning Americans in the country to avoid non-essential travel amid calls for protests after an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.
The embassy said in an emergency message to U.S. citizens that unspecified groups are using online social networks to organize demonstrations in front of the embassy Wednesday “to protest a range of issues.”

Obama condemns outrageous attack in Libya that killed a U.S. ambassador
Washington Times ^ | September 12, 2012 | Dave Boyer

President Obama said Wednesday he strongly condemns the outrageous attack by a mob in Libya that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers, Mr. Obama said in a statement. They exemplified Americas commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.
Mr. Stevens and three other Americans were killed Tuesday in an attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islams Prophet Muhammad.

Islams Black Flag Flies Over U.S. Embassy in Egypt
Posted By Raymond Ibrahim On September 12, 2012 @ 12:45 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage
The United States embassy of Egypt is under siege. According to Fox News:
Mainly ultraconservative Islamist protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Egypts capital Tuesday and brought down the flag, replacing it with a black flag with an Islamic inscription to protest a video attacking Islams prophet, Muhammad. Hundreds of protesters marched to the embassy in downtown Cairo . Dozens of protesters then scaled the embassy walls, went into the courtyard and took down the flag from a pole. They brought it back to the crowd outside, which tried to burn it, but failing that, tore it apart. The protesters on the wall then raised on the flagpole a black flag with the Muslim declaration of faith on it, There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet. The flag, similar to the banner used by al-Qaida, is commonly used by ultraconservatives around the region . By evening, the protest grew with thousands standing outside the embassy, chanting Islamic, Islamic. The right of our prophet will not die. A group of women in black veils and robes that left only their eyes exposed chanted, Worshippers of the Cross, leave the Prophet Muhammad alone.
Some clarifications for context: Islams black flag with the shehada and sword inscription is not an al-Qaeda banner but rather Islams most ancient banner, popularized by the Abbasid caliphs in the 800s. In other words, these protesters were not imitating al-Qaeda; rather theyand al-Qaedaare imitating Islams heritage, replete with jihad against the infidel. Same with the phrase worshippers of the crossIslams ancient appellation for the hated Christians.
The reason behind this latest rampage is Muslim outrage over the appearance of a film deemed offensive about the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Apparently it depicts him inciting jihads, deceiving people, and exercising his libidonot unlike what is recorded in Islams own authoritative biographies and hadiths of the prophet. It is not exactly clear who made the video, though Egyptian expatriates and Copts are being accused, possibly in conjunction with Pastor Terry Jones. In other words, the reason for this latest bit of Muslim outrage is once again the issue of free speechin the same camp of Danish Muhammad cartoons, burned Korans, and any number of other freedoms of expression exercised by non-Muslims, and even Muslims.
The U.S.s formal response to this terror campaign against its embassy and the desecration of the American flag has, once again, been to lay the blame on free speech. In a statement, the U.S. said, The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals [film makers] to hurt the religious feelings of Muslimsas we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
Interestingly, while very concerned about the religious feelings of Muslims, the U.S. embassy in Egypt had nothing to say about the fact that, right before it was attacked, a Christian man in Egypt stood on trial for insulting Islameven as a throng of Muslims besieged the court-house, interrupting the hearing and calling for the mans death. Apparently appeasing thin skins is more important than speaking up for those whose lives are at stakenot just Christian Egyptians, but now U.S. employeesover issues of freedom.
Left unsaid and unknown in any Western media is the fact that the U.S. embassy has long been under threat, but for different reasons. Earlier, the Egyptian paper El Fagr reported that Jihadi groups in Egypt, including Islamic Jihad, the Sunni Group, and Al Gamaa Al Islamiyya had issued a statement threatening to burn the U.S. embassy in Cairo to the ground unless all the Islamic jihadis currently imprisonment and in detention centers in the U.S. including Guantanamo Bay were released:
The group, which consists of many members from al-Qaeda, called [especially] for the quick release of the jihadi [mujahid] sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman [the ‘Blind Sheikh’], whom they described as a scholar and jihadi who sacrificed his life for the Egyptian Umma, who was ignored by the Mubarak regime, and [President] Morsi is refusing to intervene on his behalf and release him, despite promising that he would. The Islamic Group has threatened to burn the U.S. Embassy in Cairo with those in it, and taking hostage those who remain [alive], unless the Blind Sheikh is immediately released.
Despite all thisdespite longstanding threats to the U.S. embassy, followed by a real attack, culminating with the destruction of the American flagVictoria Nuland, the U.S. State Departments Spokesperson, speaking in response to this latest attack, said that none of this suggests that there are hostile feelings for the U.S. in Egypt.
In fact, none of this is surprisingneither the attack on the U.S. embassy, nor the U.S. governments head-in-the-sand response, with strong words reserved only for those non-Muslims exercising their free speech rights. This event also explains the situation in a way that even a child can understand: the more you appeaseas the Obama administration has been doing with the Islamic world in ways unprecedentedthe more contempt you earn from those you appease, and the more demands will be made of you. Thus, today, far from being respected as a super-power, the U.S. is increasingly seen as a subdued, contemptuous dhimmiwho must say how high? whenever Muslims command jump!

Barbarians at the Gate
Posted By Mark Tapson On September 12, 2012 @ 12:55 am
Yesterday angry protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, tore down the American flag, and held up shredded bits of it to television camera crews. Welcome to the new democratic Egypt, a product of the glorious, Obama-inspired Arab Spring which sent so many thrills up the collective leg of the mainstream media.
The embassy had been cleared of diplomatic personnel earlier that day, ahead of the imminent threat. Shots were fired (by whom it isnt clear) as a large crowd gathered around the compound. Egyptian police and army personnel attempted to prevent the demonstrators from advancing farther, but not before the protesters planted the black flag of Islam atop a ladder inside the embassy. On it was lettering that read, There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger, the profession of Muslim faith.
The demonstration was apparently in protest of a film which the crowd deemed insulting to their prophet Mohammed. It was unclear which film upset them in fact, its probably unclear even to the protesters, who rarely need a specific reason to become insanely offended and rampage through the streets. Some took the opportunity to express their perceived grievances over U.S. policy, with the usual chanting of anti-American slogans. Its difficult to imagine what they have to complain about where Obamas America is concerned, since our President actively assisted the Muslim Brotherhoods rise to power there and just signed off on a $1 billion aid package to the new regime.
CNN reported that several individuals claimed responsibility for organizing the demonstrations, among them Wesam Abdel-Wareth, the president of Egypts conservative Hekma television channel. Mohammed al-Zawahiri the brother of al Qaeda bigwig Ayman al-Zawahiri added that we called for the peaceful protest joined by different Islamic factions including the Islamic Jihad, Hazem Abu Ismael movement. By peaceful he means there was not yet any wholesale slaughter of infidel Americans or any unlucky Copts who might happen to be in the vicinity.
Al-Zawahiri added that the film portrays the prophet in a very ugly manner, alluding to topics like sex, which is not acceptable. Sex, eh? Perhaps hes referring to his prophet Mohammeds marriage consummation with a nine-year-old, which would indeed be an ugly yet truthful portrayal. No wonder the crowd is upset unlike a film about Christianitys Jesus, a film that depicts Islams model for the perfect man in an historically accurate manner wouldnt paint their religion in a very flattering light.
I just want to say, al-Zawahiri went on, how would the Americans feel if films insulting leading Christian figures like the pope or historical figures like Abraham Lincoln were produced?
The answer is that films insulting Christians and American historical figures are produced almost nonstop in the entertainment biz, and Americans dont form spit-flecked, bloodthirsty mobs to storm Hollywood studios and threaten Bill Maher with death. Christians and patriotic Americans are routinely insulted in pop culture and most dont even bother to shoot off an irate email to a TV network. But of course al-Zawahiri wasnt expecting empathy; these mobs dont want our respect they want our submission.
And they got it. How did U.S. embassy officials respond to this unacceptable behavior? First they issued a warning to Americans in Egypt, telling them to avoid the demonstrations because clashes may occur. Note the neutrality and moral equivalence of the word clashes, which suggests equal aggression from both sides, when in fact one side is peaceful and civilized, and the other becomes savagely violent at the drop of an imaginary hat.
Next, the U.S. Embassy issued a stern condemnation of the filmmakers and their free speech. It stated that it condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. So the official stance of our government is that the filmmakers and bear in mind that its unclear who the filmmakers are or even that this supposedly offensive film exists are misguided and intentionally offending Muslims, and they are the ones responsible for the barbaric behavior of the rioters, not the rioters themselves.
Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy, the Embassy statement continued. Sadly, this kind of platitude is always trotted out in defense of the hair-trigger feelings of murderous Muslims but never for the members of any other faith group largely because no other faith group ever needs placating like Muslims. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others. Apparently our own embassy is confused about the definition of free speech, a freedom which is meaningless unless it is protected from people who claim that it offends them.
This is craven dhimmitude, pure and simple. When our own embassy in Cairo is under assault; the American flag is torn down and shredded, and another raised in its place; and our official response is to leap to the defense of the delicate sensibilities of the fanatics storming our embassy, then we are no longer a beacon of freedom and human rights in a dark land. We are appeasers and collaborators in their totalitarianism.
After the Egyptian election victory of Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi (a man who vowed that under his leadership, Egyptian law would be the sharia, then the sharia, and finally, the sharia) Obama congratulated him by underscoring that the United States will continue to stand by the Egyptian people as they fulfill the promise of their revolution. With events like Tuesdays assault on our Embassy in Cairo, we are seeing that revolution beginning to be fulfilled in the birth of a new Iran in the Middle East, as we saw it fulfilled there in 1979.
U.S. intelligence agencies recently monitored a secret meeting between Egypts intelligence chief and a senior Iranian spy that is raising new fears the Muslim Brotherhood government in Cairo could begin covertly supporting global terrorism.
All I can say is, "DUH." Surprises no one who knows anything about the MB. This is Obama's handiwork. He toiled and lied long and hard for this outcome:
FLASHBACK:
Flashback- W.H.: Muslim Brotherhood "Secular," Won't Seek Presidency
In February of last year, the White House was very busy giving the Muslim Brotherhood free PR. This prompted the Telegraph to write an article entitled, "The Muslim Brotherhood gets a PR makeover from the Obama administration." In the piece, Administration officials are quoted as saying that the Muslim Brotherhood is a "largely secular" organisation that "eschewed violence."
Muslim Brotherhood Makes Fools of Naive West
Can you imagine this? The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood lied! And can you imagine this: the two civilians who are Egypts greatest hope for avoiding an Islamist dictatorship are very worried. Lets start with the Brotherhood. First, it promised to run candidates for only one-third of the parliamentary seats, saying this would proof of its moderation and willingness to share power. But a little later, it raised that number to 50 percent but said thats all and they wouldnt run a candidate for president. Again, we were told: theyre moderate! Next, it created a front party to run a candidate for...

A graphic picture has emerged online of Libyan civilians dragging the unconscious body of Chris Stevens, the US ambassador who was one of four diplomatic staff killed during an attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.
The picture appears to show the civilians dragging Stevens through the streets in search of help, after the attack which ultimately killed him as well as three other staff, including information management officer Sean Smith.
Although the precise circumstances of Stevens’s death remain unclear, it is thought that 52-year-old Stevens went to the US consulate in Benghazi a few hours after the initial attack on the compound.
Reports suggest that Stevens, Smith and their bodyguards were attacked in their car. The ambassador eventually died of suffocation.
The attack was prompted by the release of an Islamophobic film entitled Innocence of Muslims, which was produced in the US state of California and directed by Israeli-American Sam Bacile.

Muslim Brotherhood youths announced on their Facebook pages their solidarity with calls for the demonstration, saying they would participate in it despite a formal decision made by the party not to call for protests. Coptic priests nationwide rejected the offensive film, stressing that religious symbols are a red line.
In a statement released yesterday [September 11], the US embassy in Cairo condemned the insulting film, describing it as a continued effort by misguided individuals to hurt the feelings of Muslims. The statement declared the United States firm rejection of hurting the religious beliefs of others.
In reaction to the film, hundreds of followers of Islamic movements yesterday surrounded the entrances leading to the American embassy in Cairo to denounce the film that offends the Prophet Muhammad, which was produced in collaboration with Coptic Egyptian immigrants in the United States. The US embassy had a heavy security presence in order to protect the premises.
The protest was attended by leaders of Islamic movements, most notably Mohammad al-Zawahiri, brother of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri; a number of sons of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, the Emir of the Gamaa Islamiyya group; Sheikh Gamal Saber, coordinator of the Hazimoun movement and Sheikh Abu-Yahya al-Masri, spokesman for the Salafist Voice of Wisdom Coalition, which called for the protests.
Zawahiri said that the US government’s response by issuing a statement through its embassy in Cairo condemning the producers of the video that insults the Prophet was not enough. He added that the filmmakers should be arrested and brought to trial, like Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, who was falsely accused of slander and inciting violence.
Gamal Saber, coordinator of the Hazimoun movement and co-founder of the Egyptian Umma Party, said that there is ongoing coordination between Islamic and revolutionary forces to organize a million-man demonstration in the event of the film being aired in the United States. He said that the forces are demanding that US citizenship be revoked from the Coptic Egyptian immigrants involved in the production of the film and that they be prevented from entering Egypt.
They also called for the severing of all relations with the United States and withdrawing the Egyptian ambassador from Washington, since the United States has once more allowed pastor Terry Jones who had previously burned the Koran three times to insult the Prophet.
Ahmad Khalil, spokesman for the Salafist Nour Party, said that the party supports all escalatory measures against the offenders of the Prophet, adding that the party will stand in the face of anyone who tries to insult Islam anywhere in the world.
For their part, Muslim Brotherhood youths announced via official and unofficial websites their participation in the million-man demonstration. Ali Khafagy, secretary-general of the youth committee in the Freedom and Justice Party, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, denied that the party made a formal decision to take part in the demonstration.
He said, [Participation in] the million-man demonstration is still being discussed, but the Brotherhood supports all escalatory measures against the film and the Coptic immigrants involved in producing it.
Gamaa Islamiya hailed the honorable position of the loyal patriotic Copts who rejected this slander, calling on Coptic institutions and churches in Egypt to take the right position in order to expose the liars who sought to incite sedition.
Nader Murkos, member of the Council of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, said that the church condemns pastor Terry Jones claims, rejects insults against any prophet, and respects all religions and prophets. He criticized the Coptic immigrants move to produce a film that offends the Prophet Muhammad.
Radi Atallah Iskandar, pastor of the Attarine Evangelical Church in Alexandria, said that pastor Jones promotion along with some radical Copts of a film that offends the Prophet of Islam is inconsistent with the spirit and teachings of Christianity. He added that religious symbols are red lines that no one is allowed to cross.

Al-Qaeda video says U.S. will target American Muslims
AFP via Al Arabiya ^ | 9/12/2102

Al-Qaeda released a Sept. 11 anniversary video declaring the United States is at war with Islam and that American Muslims should brace for a holocaust, U.S. monitors said Wednesday.
The video, which features al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri as well as its American spokesman Adam Gadahn, is entitled Truth has Come and Falsehood has Perished and was posted on jihadist forums, according to SITE and IntelCenter.
According to a SITE transcript, Gadahn rejects President Barack Obamas assertion that the United States is not at war with Islam because America is crystal-clear about its opposition to Islam as a political system.
Referring to U.S. drone strikes, he says: Today, American Muslims are being killed in Yemen, tomorrow theyre going to be killed (by the U.S. government) in New York and Los Angeles. Get ready for the holocaust.
The video, which also features al-Qaeda officials Ustadh Ahmad Farooq and Maulvi Asim Umar, also argues that the United States is facing defeat on various battlefronts, according to the monitors.
It totals more than 90 minutes in Arabic, English and Urdu, and comes a day after Zawahiri issued a video eulogizing Abu Yahya al-Libi, his late deputy and propaganda chief who was killed in a drone strike in June.
Gadahn, also known as Azzam the American, was born in 1978. He is a native of southern California and has appeared in several videotapes for al-Qaeda since 2004.
Egyptian Zawahiri, a former eye surgeon, took charge of the extremist group following the death of Osama bin Laden, who was killed by U.S. special forces in May 2011.

Officials within the Obama administration have reportedly said the deadly attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, which killed ambassador Chris Stevens, was planned in advance.
Both the New York Times and CNN are quoting sources within the administration as saying the attack on the consulate was planned.
CNN’s source claimed “Tuesday’s attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was planned in advance, and the attackers used the protest outside the consulate as a diversion”.
Some media reports have also suggested ‘Innocence of Muslims’, the scandalous film that many blame for sparking the protest, was used as a pretext for the attacks on US embassies in Libya and Cairo.
Senior US officials also told CNN that unmanned surveillance drones are expected to begin flying over Benghazai and other locations in eastern Libya to look for jihadi encampments and targets that may be tied to the deadly attack on American personnel.

Remarks by the President on the Deaths of U.S. Embassy Staff in Libya
Rose Garden
10:43 A.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Every day, all across the world, American diplomats and civilians work tirelessly to advance the interests and values of our nation. Often, they are away from their families. Sometimes, they brave great danger.
Yesterday, four of these extraordinary Americans were killed in an attack on our diplomatic post in Benghazi. Among those killed was our Ambassador, Chris Stevens, as well as Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith. We are still notifying the families of the others who were killed. And today, the American people stand united in holding the families of the four Americans in our thoughts and in our prayers.
The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack. Were working with the government of Libya to secure our diplomats. Ive also directed my administration to increase our security at diplomatic posts around the world. And make no mistake, we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people.
Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence. None. The world must stand together to unequivocally reject these brutal acts.
Already, many Libyans have joined us in doing so, and this attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya. Libyan security personnel fought back against the attackers alongside Americans. Libyans helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevenss body to the hospital, where we tragically learned that he had died.
Its especially tragic that Chris Stevens died in Benghazi because it is a city that he helped to save. At the height of the Libyan revolution, Chris led our diplomatic post in Benghazi. With characteristic skill, courage, and resolve, he built partnerships with Libyan revolutionaries, and helped them as they planned to build a new Libya. When the Qaddafi regime came to an end, Chris was there to serve as our ambassador to the new Libya, and he worked tirelessly to support this young democracy, and I think both Secretary Clinton and I relied deeply on his knowledge of the situation on the ground there. He was a role model to all who worked with him and to the young diplomats who aspire to walk in his footsteps.
Along with his colleagues, Chris died in a country that is still striving to emerge from the recent experience of war. Today, the loss of these four Americans is fresh, but our memories of them linger on. I have no doubt that their legacy will live on through the work that they did far from our shores and in the hearts of those who love them back home.
Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.
As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe.
No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.
But we also know that the lives these Americans led stand in stark contrast to those of their attackers. These four Americans stood up for freedom and human dignity. They should give every American great pride in the country that they served, and the hope that our flag represents to people around the globe who also yearn to live in freedom and with dignity.
We grieve with their families, but let us carry on their memory, and let us continue their work of seeking a stronger America and a better world for all of our children.
Thank you. May God bless the memory of those we lost and may God bless the United States of America.

A bloody attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya that left American ambassador Christopher Stevens, two marines and a communications officer dead was a planned ambush by terrorists using a pro-Islam protest as cover, it has been claimed.
The victims died during a rocket attack when an armed mob set fire to the consulate in Benghazi after joining a protest over a ‘blasphemous’ film about the Prophet Mohammed.
It is believed a ‘small, vicious group’ of attackers used the protest as a diversion, although questions remain over whether the killers drummed up support for the march or simply took advantage of it, an official told CNN.
While it is not known exactly who was responsible for the rampage, a London think tank with strong ties to Libya said Stevens, who is not believed to have been targeted, could have been the victim of a revenge attack by al Qaeda.
The assault ‘came to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al Qaeda’s second in command killed a few months ago’ in Pakistan, think tank Quilliam told CNN, noting the rocket-propelled grenade launchers used in the attack do not normally appear at peaceful protests.
‘The military assault against the US Consulate in Benghazi should not be seen as part of a protest against a low budget film which was insulting Islam there were just a few peaceful protesters present at the event,’ Quilliam said in a statement.
‘Indeed, there have been no other demonstrations regarding this film in Libya. We at Quilliam believe the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was a well-planned terrorist attack that would have occurred regardless of the demonstration, to serve another purpose.’
Officials also reportedly voiced their concern that the attack was timed for the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, which were commemorated across the U.S. on Tuesday.
