Amen.

I have a nephew with four kids, a wife and two jobs.
He makes 35,000 a year. They turn down all aid, including free breakfasts and lunches.

Lots of candy has been offered to them.

We make more than that but have a last name that could be Hispanic and get offered all that free lunch stuff too. And turn it down.

We have gotten the most condescending letters giving away services from banks and whatnot.

Your post brings back some interesting and touching memories in my life. The time was the during the depression days of the 1930s. My mother was working for our family of 4 for about $4.00 per week when she did work. On holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas and other times different organizations like the Elks Club and Salvation Army would put on free meals for children of poor, disadvantaged families. My mother always saw to it that I was at these free meals. However, she could never get my brother who was older than I was to go to these free meals. His stand was that he didn’t want any handouts. My brother grew up to be a star athlete in high school as well as a scholastic standout. He was killed in the battle for Okinawa. One thing above all others I remember about my brother is his stubbornness against handouts.
