State law. The law requires 10,000 signatures from registered voters and they didn’t get them.

Wrong!! Get your facts straight. This is NOT a state law. It's the VA GOP RULE which was changed in Oct. of this year to the rule that they had to be verified. In the past it was just 10000 signatures which Gingrich and Perry did receive.

No, noot said 1600 of his names were fraud. And in the past if you got 15,000 or more they thought that a 5000 margin was enough to make up for people improperly listed.

No, it’s state law:
Ҥ 24.2-545. Presidential primary...
B. Any person seeking the nomination of the national political party for the office of President of the United States, or any group organized in this Commonwealth on behalf of, and with the consent of such person, may file with the State Board petitions signed by at least 10,000 qualified voters, including at least 400 qualified voters from each congressional district in the Commonwealth...”

The confusion about this has arisen because it’s the Party that counts and certifies the vote and in October the R Party told the candidates it would verify all their signatures unless they had at least 15,000.
It’s the duty of the Party to attest that the candidate has gotten the 10,000 signatures from qualified voters as the law requires.
Of course the Party could just lie to the state.

But I don’t want to think Perry or Gingrich were counting on the Party evading the law.
I think they just didn’t appreciate the task before them.
