My mother nursed seven children, while we traveled all over the world. In airports, on ships, on planes, everywhere. At no time was she immodest. She always kept a cloth with her to conceal herself, and never had a problem.

I don't buy these stories.

I sometimes meet older women at church who nursed their children when it was very unfashionable. They’re often the most supportive, both of having a large family and breastfeeding. And they often enjoy seeing all the clothes and accessories I have available which they didn’t.

I got a free “nursing cover,” sort of an apron like Juan Diego’s tilma, when I ordered a pillow recently. I’ve seen some of the women at church using them, and I expect I’ll find it helpful during the early weeks when you really need four hands, and later when the baby is large and deliberately trying to expose everything!
