Rasmussen: Romney tops Obama, 45/39; Update: Party affiliation ratio in sample added
Hot Air ^ | 29 Dec 2011 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 12/29/2011 2:48:04 PM PST by mandaladon

Two polls released today show Barack Obama in serious trouble for re-election. Rasmussen has polled Obama head-to-head against various Republican candidates most of the year, and in today’s matchup against Mitt Romney, Obama falls behind among likely voters to the widest margin yet:

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date. The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

It’s Obama’s number that is more significant in these early head-to-head matchups. Republicans are still vigorously contesting a primary, which means Republicans haven’t united behind a candidate in the way Democrats are already lined up behind Obama.

The bad news is that the Republican is a RINO.

I would take a RINO over Romney any day.

Thank God it’s not Pelosi anymore. I’m surprised I didn’t hear Republicans pointing out when they were campaigning against her that someone who is so anti-everything America stands for was just 2 heartbeats away from becoming an unelected president.

He shot into positive territory 47%-45% for one whole day, in the Gallup daily tracking poll released on 12/24. Since then he’s steadily dropped back down to 41%-50% in their latest poll released today.

Call it a “dead reindeer” bounce from the payroll tax cut farce.

I will be curious to see if the Mooch and BO continue their extravagant Hawaii Christmas vacations when they are out of office. If, like the press says, they pay for them out of their personal money, then they should keep going. They never spent that on Christmas before the WH so it’s painfully obvious who pays for it all. We shall see.

He’s back down because the public was reminded about the Mooch and her $2000 dresses etc. We were reminded that he played golf for 7 hours and back down he went. The more she vacations and lives the extravagant life of the wife of a dictator, the numbers will stay down.

"We bicker between three or four other candidates, while their guy runs the creases. What a strategy."

While true, there's at least been an opening for a conservative in this primary and the prior one. Fred Thompson simply didn't want to be President. And I believe, neither does Palin.

Odd, since AL SHARPTON has a better shot at being nominated the GOP POTUS candidate than MYTH SLICK WILLARD RINO ROMNEY THE DEGENERATE LIAR AND COWARD does.

Opportunist phony coward degenerate sons of polygamist military service avoiding snake oil salesmen bitches from a family of phony coward degenerate sons of polygamist military service avoiding snake oil salesmen bitches like Romney need to be destroyed.

The GOP risks annihilation as long as he is in the mix.

This must be the last election cycle he is allowed to pollute.

This WEASEL FLIP SLICK WILLARD RINO ROMNEY DOESN'T HAVE THE BALLS to fight communists.

He is a coward from a family of military service avoiding cowards, a cultist, and a degenerate liar.

So afraid of being branded MCCARTHYITES, these country club establishment glad handing sons of bitch WASHINGTONIANS running the RNC.

PAYBACK IS COMING

"You are seeing today an all out attempt to marshal the forces of the opposition, using not merely the communists, or their fellow travelers-the deluded liberals, the eggheads, and some of my good friends in both the Democratic and Republican Parties who can become heros over night in the eyes of the left-wing press if they will just join with the jackal pack"

The Romneys are cowards and snake oil salesmen.

Its unconscionable that they en mass have forsworn fighting this nations foreign wars, and he should be disqualified for national office based on that alone.

His father didnt serve either, and the rest of the clan were busy hiding in Mexico where they could practice muslim style polygamy.

He has also taken a firm stand against illegal immigration, which is somewhat ironic, as the evidence suggests that Romney's own grandfather came to America as an illegal immigrant.

His great-grandfather, a devout Mormon in a time when his church encouraged polygamy, fled the US with his multiple wives in 1884, when American law could strip polygamists of the right to vote or serve on juries.

Romney's grandfather and father were born and raised in Mexico, and Romney's father was a child when his family left Mexico at the height of the Mexican Revolution, in 1912. Romney's father's and grandmother were American citizens under the law at that time, and came to America on a train, while his grandfather crossed the border northward in classic "illegal immigrant" fashion, entering US territory on a long walk over barren desert land.

I don’t care what the polls say. obumbo is not on solid ground and he will not carry the electorate in 2012. the country hates his policies and will vote that way in november.
happy new year.

i think republicans will be more motivated than democrats in 2012.

That statement may not hold true if Romney gets the nomination.

The media and the libs know that, thus the (liberal) full court press to get him the nomination is now open and operating.

As far as US economy? That's like comparing a Katrina welfare addict to Warren Buffett.
