Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Yes, but I still suspect that you would stay at home in an Obama Vs. Romney election.

And why not?

They seem shocked when I tell them I can’t stand Mittens the dog abuser, they think he is the only one that can beat Hussein. I think they are wrong. I stand to make a lot of money on bets if it comes down to those two if Barry Soetoro beats him

It wouldn't really matter who won the election, Barry or Myth. Both would tax away the winnings, anyway.

Newt will annihilate Zero in all 3 debates. It will be a work of Art.

Newt is his own handler whereas Zero’s handlers are Valerie Jarret & David Axelrod & of course his tele-prompter
___________________________

I agree and that is who I am supporting as long as he is running. He will destroy the Marxist Kenyan in debates and he’s not afraid to attack him. Romney? What a joke, when O’Reilly asked him if Barry Soetoro was a socialist he looked like he was going to cry then made some lame a$$ excuse that he doesn’t want to call names. He will be just like McCain, a total chicken sh*t. Remember this?

McCain was Obongo’s best campaigner.

The reality is Mitt is the only republican (running) that can beat Obama in 2012.

Is this straight from the RNC or did you modify the message some? I, like a lot of conservatives, fell for that line in 2008. Never again. I will never again vote for some moderate, faux-conservative phony.

What makes Myth such a sure thing? He botched the Senate race against Ted (and really let his anti-Reagan and anti-conservative spots show). He did win the governor's race but was so unpopular that he knew that he had no chance at re-election. Sure, Romney's got a lot of money but how did that help him in 2008? Romney can't buy popularity. The more people see of Mitt Romney, the less they like him. His insincerity comes through with time.

Because Romney can't really distinguish himself from Obama on policies, a race between the two is very likely to focus on jobs and likability. By the time of the GE, the MSM will have painted Romney and his buddies at Bain Capital as the biggest job destroyers in the history of our economy. For some reason, people like Obama as a person. Romney is just a cold fish to most people. Once the MSM gets finished with its coverage of the strange beliefs of Mormonism, Romney will be viewed very suspiciously.

Put a Republican who can credibly stake out clear policy differences with Obama and that person will win. Running Obama-lite versus Obama is a losing strategy.

Truth is, ANY Republican will trounce the universally hated incompetent Carter, er, Obama. Just don’t like the media building up Romney as our savior when the ONLY thing going for him is the “R” after his name He doesn’t even qualify as a RINO. He’s a full-blooming abortionist/socialist/statist liberal progressive!! He’s the exact opposite of what we need in DC. He has no redeeming conservative principles or qualifications whatsoever.

Rebellion is brewing!!

” Just don’t like the media building up Romney as our savior when the ONLY thing going for him is the “R” after his name. He doesn’t even qualify as a RINO. He’s a full-blooming abortionist/socialist/statist liberal progressive!! “ <<<<

The big trap is not just in the media, but here, being led like lambs to the slaughter into entertaining the idea of Romney as the nominee, BEFORE THE FIGHT EVEN BEGINS, and at the first sign of incoming. We have ONE disappointing poll and a media parade selling it, and we have to discuss Romney as the best nominee over Newt, or the rest, based on that? Hardly. These purveyors for Romney are introducing all this pipe pondering deliberately, to diminish the non-Romney enthusiasm, using this poll to coax us into a discussion of a worst case scenario with Romney as the nominee. The by product is to soften us up, hoping to make Romney appear more tolerable NOW, during the primary. It is too dang early to throw in the towel for Romney. (In My Hardly Humble Opinion.) I don’t like it one bit.

You gotta realize ALL the early races are PROPORTIONAL delegates, not winner-take-all, and some of the later ones I think. So the winner doesn’t get all the delegates. One difference that makes is that a close second is ALMOST as good as winning. And a blowout win is MUCH better than a close win. I don’t know if that changes the calculation in Newt’s favor or not. That definitely helps Mitt in NH.

I thought they were running for president, not Miss America. Aside from Bachmann, I’m not looking forward to the swimsuit competition. Now I really wish Palin had got in the race.

There must be a sea monster in Lake Michigan who, due to reduced tourism under Obama’s economy, has been forced to live off food stamps.

I will bet you a 50 dollar donation to FR that Gingrich fails to defeat Obama in the General Election. Put your money where your mouth is.

I'll take that bet. You sure you don't want to raise it to $10,000?

Double the marxism and double the corruption. Yeah, it will never happen. Of course, with Hillary as VP, Obama wouldn’t have to keep blaming Bush and he could ... oh hell, never mind. Wow! had a trash fire going earlier and it got out of hand. All of a sudden the wind got up and bam, it spread, like a, like a wild fire! With shovel and rake, I started digging trenches but saw it was too much. Told my wife to call the volunteer FD. They got out here quick as they could. Couple of neighbors stopped over to help and we had mostly contained the fire and the FD finished up. Wheee! Luckily there was moisture in the pine trees and the wind let up. Everything ok now.But worn down. Be careful with trash burning.

I will not vote for the faux Republican known as Mitt Romney if he is the Republican nominee. As was pointed out in earlier posts, better a conservative Republican House and Senate and Obama as President, than a conservative Republican House and Senate with Romney as President. An Obama-light Republican President will destroy the Republican party brand, what’s left of it.
