Not that they’ve ever had remotely close to 8 million subscribers at any time. Of course they keep lists of all former subscribers, but I got two of these spammy email notices from them and I’ve sure NEVER subscribed to either print or web NY Times.
Presumably they had my email address bc I have written in years past to correct some of their more egregious errors. This suggests that they accumulate email addresses of non-subscribers like me who are foolish enough to write to them for any reason. However, I never requested or consented to any kind of marketing from them, only wrote to criticize editorial and news output. Thus, it is truly “spam” to send any sales/marketing emails, even accidentally, to people like me who are NOT willing customers.
