The language used and alluded to in the movie was not what we would want our children our ourselves to emulate or think was acceptable.
Seriously? That’s what offended you? And in only the first 20 minutes? You must have led a very sheltered life.
And you must have never had a dad like mine; a good man, a great father, a patriot and WWII vet and a deeply religious man who occasionally said such horrible words like “ass” and “son of a bitch” and on a few occasions, worse.
I think the movie is absolutely charming. It lovingly depicts a bye gone era, the innocence of childhood, the wonder of Christmas through a child’s eye and the love of parents for their children.
BTW, when I was in the 4th grade my dad took me to see the movie “Patton” when it came out. Before the movie started he talked with me and told me I was going to hear some “bad” language and see some depictions of war. But he thought it was important that I learn something about history and he as I got older told me about his experiences in the war and he didn’t sugar coat it for me. I respected my father and while I don’t (at least not usually) curse like he sometimes did, he was and still is my hero.
I might suggest you try watching the movie all the way to the end to get the really great message about fathers and sons, back in a time before the PC culture permeates and pushes that “guns” are bad and boys shouldn’t be boys and dad’s shouldn’t be dads.
You mileage may vary however. And I bet having a stick up your ass doesn’t help.
I hope your children don’t emulate the obvious pole up your behind.
