German Court Rules Muslim Student Disturbed the Peace by Praying
Süddeutsche Zeitung (via Yahoo) ^ | 12/25/11 | MATTHIAS DROBINSKI

Yunus M., an 18-year-old Muslim high school student at Diesterweg Gymnasium in Berlin, Germany, has failed in his fight for the right to pray in the public corridors at school. The latest decision concerns this individual case only, judges at the Federal Administrative Court emphasized. But should the plaintiff, who is near graduation, opt to pursue the matter, the only further legal recourse open to him is the Federal Constitutional Court.

The question that the case raises, however, remains: should Muslim students be able to pray openly at school?

Four years ago, Yunus M. and seven friends gathered in the school corridor to bow in the direction of Mecca. The school's director forbid them to do it again, and the case went through a local court, then a court of appeal, before being heard at the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig.

According to chief justice Werner Neumann, students have a fundamental right to pray at school. He said, however, that religious freedom has its limits if it threatens to cause social friction within the school, as was the case here. The court agreed with the position of the school, whose director stated that there had been repeated religious conflicts at the school, and that at an establishment where 90% of the students were not German it was impossible for them all to claim a right to pray there publically. In addition, the director stated, Yunus M. had been offered a space where he could pray privately.

Gee I guess next these German bigots will stop Islamists from washing their feet in public drinking fountains. Is there no end to the suffering of Islamists (political Islam, sharia law advocates)? Can't we just get along? Do Muslim countries do that to Christians?

Wot? Well yeah, sure they kill the Christians but have they ever stopped a Christian from washing his feet in a public drinking fountain? I didn't think so.

The Christian prayer group that I belonged to in high school had to meet in an unused room. When everybody is not of the same mind, praying without disturbing the rest is the polite thing to do. Some Muslims never really grasp the whole respecting other beliefs concept as practiced in modern society. I often hear Islamic defenders point to places like the old Muslim Spain as examples of tolerant Islamic societies in the past but there are two problems with that. First they were in absolute control with no further conversions allowed in the population and second their tolerance caused more fundmentalist Muslims to take over and put an end to the tolerance.

Personally, I have no problem at all letting the muzz wash their holy tootsies in public. Just so long as they use a pool, pond, lake, etc. at least 10 feet deep while standing on their heads. In fact, I’d very much like for all of them to perform their ablutions in this manner. Very much indeed.

“Some Muslims never really grasp the whole respecting other beliefs concept as practiced in modern society.”

If they are muslims they are required NOT to respect other beliefs.

Not very green are you? I mean what with all that encouraging of water pollution and everything. First time I have ever known a Marine to promote poisoning the waters. Would you want your children to swim in a pool or lake after that?

Every one should be able to pray openly in school or anywhere else as long as they are not blocking traffic or being loud and disruptive.

Exactly right! It’s not that they don’t grasp the concept so much as that they reject the premise entirely.

Kidding? Yes and no.

No because there are (true or false) comments on the Internet such as "I know someone who is a supervisor for the K.C. Aviation Department he told me that 'the Muslims were washing their feet in the drinking fountains in the airport so it became a health issue'". I remembered those items from years ago.

(Why didn't the Muslims go to the restrooms and use the sink, one could ask. Maybe there was a line waiting to use the sinks. If they must wash their feet they must was their feet period sink or no sink or risk their feet burning in Hell I've heard.)

Yes I was kidding because they are NOT victims -- they are suppose to learn about America (or any host country) and adopt -- they do NOT get away with trying to make us adopt to them. When they try that they are yanking the junkyard dogs' chains, pulling on Superman's cape. . . .

I emphasize that I do see a difference between Islamists (political Islam, sharia law advocates) and regular Muslims. I truly do. Look at the opposition in Turkey by millions of Muslims against Islamism and Sharia Law.

You see a difference? I don’t. tell me, where there ever any good Nazis? I will not ever abide Islam and Saracens, ever. They are evil, their book preaches evil and hate. Just last night, Christmas Eve, 25 Nigerian Christians were killed by a bomb planted by Saracens. ON CHRISTMAS EVE G-DAMNIT!!. If Islam is not truly evil, then evil does not exist. I will never be moved from this position.
