Donald Trump is officially a man without a party. The real estate mogul whose flirtation with the 2012 presidential race has never really ended despite announcing seven months ago he would not seek the Republican nomination has been signaling he wants to find other ways onto a presidential ticket.
Trump took another step in that direction on Thursday, switching his party affiliation from Republican to unaffiliated, according to a source close to the reality television star.
According to the source, he did so because he is disgusted with the way Republicans are handling matters in Washington, including the recent payroll tax cut deal. But the move also sets Trump up for a potential third-party run for president a possibility he began talking about almost as soon as he told his fans in May he wasnt running.
Trump has sought to reach out to the group, Americans Elect, an online, independent presidential nominating organization that has already made it on the ballot in several states, including California.
Couple Donald Trumps name recognition with his extraordinary wealth and Americans Elect truly becomes a viable force in determining who the next president will be, Trumps top political adviser Michael Cohen told ABC News. One thing is for certain, Donald Trump is adamant that Barack Obama must be defeated in 2012 under any circumstances.
This is not the first time Trump has changed his party registration. He registered as a Republican in the late 1980′s, then switched to the Democratic Party in 2001 only to return to the GOP in 2009. Trump hinted at an independent bid for president as recently as last week.

This country needs more than two parties - without a doubt. Look at where the they have gotten us in the last 100 or so years...$15T in debt, among other things.
Do I think Trump could actually succeed as president, probably not. People like him can only succeed when they have absolute power - and he can’t fire congress.
You mean like the success of Perot 1992?!
Reminds me, I have to rearrange my sock drawer.
>>> Trump threads always reveal the freepers who have a really flexible definition of conservative. >>>
Ain’t it the truth. Nothing like a Trump thread to elicit some of the most confused and illogical idiotic comments ever. Someone on this thread says that Trump’s conservatism is proven by his birther issue.
Hell, with deep thinking like that, what can you say? I mean, there’s no having an intelligent conversation with that.
Oh and the fact that you are trying to ridicule Freepers that have a different point of view confirms to me that you are very upset and angry.
I’m only ridiculing folks who think Trump is a conservative and who think that Cain and Trump would be a logical and intellectually coherent ticket.
And there was humor directed at you - and WHOOSH - there it went....
Look up.
Then let’s start by splitting the Dem party.
If Romney wins the nomination and Trump runs as an indy, we all need to get behind Trump
Trump runs.... Obama wins
How can a guy who seemingly declares bankruptcy once a year have enough money to do anything? He couldn’t run on borrowed money, could he?
He may not be a down the line conservative, but he doesnt strike me as the type of man that will do as he is told. Furthermore, if he runs ad an indy he wont owe anyone anything. There wont be a social agenda, but at least he will economically look out for American interests... which really hasnt been done since Jefferson ripped off Napolean.
The fix is in.
Romney winning would be worse than Obama winning. The conservative movement would be done. At least with Obama, there is opposition from the right
There is a single purpose to Donald Trump, that which will benefit “The Donald”. There is nothing that comes in second or beyond. This election season has been a bonanza for this modern day P.T.Barnum in allowing his, for a miniscule expenditure of time and money, to keep his name in the public mind. This is what a showman needs and desires and Mr Trump is getting this in spades!
To coin a phrase that I am sure others MUST HAVE USED, Trump is coming up trumps by using our fevered media and idiot electorate!
Exactly .
Good question. Trump seems to have made his career on declaring bankruptcy several times.
Maybe The Donald’s got a political sugar-daddy.
I’m convinced that Trump has “cut-a-deal” with “The Divine One.” Trump will get an easy license, tax break or whatever in return for his third party run. By running he will siphon off enough votes and this fact coupled with media bias, voter fraud, voter intimidation, blacks, Jew, Mexican and Asian blocs will all guarantee The Divine One’s reelection.
