.......keepin to the back roads so I wouldn’t get weighed.....
:)
My uncle tells the story of when he drove a rig and was overweight on a back road to miss the scales on the interstate. He met another truck and was warned of the portable scales up ahead. He drove within a couple of ridges of it and then started walking towards them.
When he got there, “Boy - am I lucky you guys are here so I don’t have to walk all the way into town. Could you radio out a tow-truck? My rig is broke down aways back.”
He waited with the troopers and telling stories until the tow truck came. A bit later came through being towed - and waving to the troopers and “thanks a bunch”, etc. around the scales.
On the other side of town he unhitched from the tow-truck and was on his way. I always wondered if it was a tall-tale. Sounded like a lot of trouble to go through to avoid the scales. But - I guess if one can get arrested and jailed for it, perhaps it was the truth.
