Iowa Poll: Paul 28, Gingrich 25, Romney 18 (racist newsletter nutball in the lead)

Texas Rep. Ron Paul has moved into first place – the fifth candidate to hold that spot since the mid-August Iowa GOP Straw Poll. The data collected between Dec. 8 and 18 suggest that unlike the previous frontrunners, Paul’s support is more solid.

Paul is the first choice of 27.5 percent of 333 likely caucus-goers among the 740 registered Republicans and 200 registered independents contacted by ISU. That’s up from 20.4 percent in an ISU/Gazette/KCRG poll in November. He’s followed closely by former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich whose support increased from 4.8 percent to 25.3 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came in at 17.5 percent, up from 16.3.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is the only other candidate to poll in double digits at 11.2 percent – an increase from 7.9 percent a month earlier.

"Lacey things, the wife is missing.
Didn't ask, for her permission
I'm wearing her clothes,
With immaculate hair.
Walking around in Romney underwear.

In the store, there's a teddy.
With little straps, like spaghetti.
It holds me so tight,
like handcuffs at night.
Walking around in Romney underwear

In the office there's a guy named Ron Paul.
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown.
He'll say "Are you ready?"
I'll say, "Woah man! Lets wait until the wife is out of town."

Later on, if you wanna,
We can giggle, like Madonna.
Put on some eye shade, and join the parade.
Walking around in Romney underwear.

Lacey things,the wife is missing.
Didn't ask, for her permission.
Wearing her clothes, with immaculate hair.
Walking around in Romney underwear.
Walking around in Romney underwear.
Walking around in Romney underwear......"

I don’t care how pissed off you are with Washington or business as usual, if you vote for Ron Paul you are a piece of garbage and deserve whatever you get. He is a stormfront nazi who is one step away from being David Duke. Iowa has enough good options remaining if they don’t like Newt or Mitt.

Perry, Bachmann or Santorum need to win Iowa.

It is down to one of those three to save us from Newt, Romney and Paul.

Lots of polls out there “guessing” who is going to take Iowa.....Bachmanns sprinting across the state in her desperate run to get attention after she’s botched her own campaign.... Romney operates from his snake pit..sends out his hidden forces to do the work which would otherwise call him out as the snake he is.

Newt’s going to hold his own I think...if he falters in Iowa we have already seen what he can do even without a staff. I have no doubt Newt’s got some plans to overcome any result which might be in Iowa.

If Paul gets it everybody knows he’s the Democrates favorite as Obama can push him over with a breath of air....the Democrates would love nothing better than to be up against Paul. Piece of cake for them.

Since the Gov. of Iowa has his hand on the pulse there and said not to pay attention to how Paul does as he knows why Paul is polling as he is and it isn’t because the citzens are for him. I’ll take his word over Pauls dingbats. followers.

Ron Paul is also the unpaid apologist for al Qaeda.

What are you talking about? Paul was one of the few in Congress and the only Presidential candidate that opposed US/NATO financing, arming, training, and providing air support to Al-Qaeda to help them takeover Libya.

If this poll is correct and that is what the voters of Iowa feel then there is no hope for America.

I like Huntsman. I think in a gemneral election Huntsman / Martinez (Gov NM) would be a landslide and earthquake like we have never seen.

The Paul, Romney supporters have spent 9 MILLION dollars in attack ads against Newt. Flooded the airwaves. IF they spent that much in just Iowa...how much in the other states? sheeesh...Iowa doesn’t always pick winners..but that is stunning...9 MILLION?

It looks like Newt is on the rebound.

This poll is, on average, 9 days old. In that time Rasmussen, PPP, and Insider Advantage have shown Newt's numbers in Iowa drop 3, 8, and 14 points, respectively.

Maybe just maybe it will make an opening for Santorum or Bachmann or maybe another conservative will enter the fray????

You've put your finger on it... the party leadership won't run a true conservative, and the rank and file won't put up with anything else. The leadership better take notice... no more 'business as usual' in Washington. If we keep going in the direction we've been going, the country's going to burn down around our ears.

Feel free to dislike him for what he is, but don't tell lies about him. That's a d@mned liberal trick.

>>The oldest President inaugurated was Ronnie Reagan (69). RP will be 77 if/when he is inaugurated. Ain’t gonna happen...<<

Exactly. Actuarial tables indicate he’s got about a 96% chance of making November 2012, and about a 75% chance of living through one term of office. And that’s disregarding the fairly high likelihood of a stroke, or other debilitating event occurring. I figure there’d be about a 50 percent chance of his VP finishing up Paul’s term of office if he’s elected.

Yet, it seems reasonable to assume that a fair percentage of Paul’s supporters are apparently sincere (and not just Democrats messing with the process) and there might be a way that another conservative candidate could tap into that enthusiasm given the right approach. What that approach would be, I’m not sure, but I suspect it would have something to do with getting government out of people’s lives particularly where government goes about destroying the lives of those caught trying marijuana on an occasional basis.

I think it’s a mistake to assume the enthusiasm for Paul is all whacko-generated, and wonder whether there’s a way for someone like Perry to make inroads on Paul’s growing constituency with the right message, especially given the age issue. For that matter, some of the Democrats “messing with the process” might also find Paul’s positions on drugs and limited government somewhat appealing.
