Turks Seek to Avert French Armenian Genocide Bill by All Means

Turkey is doing its utmost to head off a bill in the French National Assembly that would criminalize the denial of the Armenian genocide of 1915. The Armenians claim that one and a half million Armenians died as result of mass deportations by the Turkish Ottomans.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul warned the French that they were jeopardizing centuries of friendship in return for "small political calculations". The Turks view French president Nicolas Sarkozy as hostile to them and a major roadblock in their quest to join the European Union. The political calculations Gul referred to were apparently Sarkozy's wish to woo voters for the National Front who regard France's Muslim population with hostility.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan essentially warned the French that they were opening a Pandora's Box given French Imperial history. He recommended that the French National Assembly investigate how many people France killed during the war in Algeria or France's responsibility for the genocide in Rwanda.

The Turks are also raising the issue of free speech by claiming the right to dispute the Armenian version. A Turkish academic interviewed by the pro-government Zaman said “Neither those who say that it was genocide nor those who say that it was not should be punished”. This is a bit rich for a for a country that punishes people for insulting "Turkishness.".

Here comes. I'm about to become a wanted man in Istanbul:

Now for France: I deny the Armenian Genocide by the Ottomans (Turks) took place in 1915. It probably started slow in 1914, and built up to a crescendo in ensuing years. Furthermore, they should just be more careful about tripping over Ottomans. I would tell Dick Van Dyke the same thing. So there.

I'm sure I'll be arrested any time I pass through either airport on my way to the states.

‘Centuries of friendship’? Last I checked the Ottoman Empire was at war with France less than one century ago and then Turkey was tacitly friendly to the Nazis during WW2. And at the dawn of the 19th century the Ottoman Caliph had no qualms about enslaving captured French citizens and he even forced a young French girl into his personal harem.

Or maybe I’m misunderstanding ‘friendly’ to mean “At least we haven’t slaughtered millions of you like we did to the Armenians.”

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan

The name Erdogan sound very Armenian to me, so perhaps he should check his heritage, The Turks has been trying to bury this story since the first world war, funny how it is popping up now, I first heard about it fifty or sixty years ago, and nobody official has ever brought it up befor, is Sargosy trying to keep the Turks out of the EU? why would the Turks want to join the EU anyway? the EU are broke and Turkey is not in Europe, so what gives?

The last one is easy. Turkey wants to get into the EU so they can eliminate passport control and flood Europe with Muslims — or, maybe I should say, even MORE Muslims.

Think about it. If Turkey joins the EU and Turks start getting purple passports, how in the world would any EU nation be able to keep them out? And how hard will the Turks look at the heritage of passport holder? Hell, in the countryside they will be selling them wholesale.

Turkish membership in the EU would connect Europe and the Islamic “Ummah” at the hip for the first time since the Crusades. The Europeans better wake up to what’s really at stake.

Personally, I would like to see Constantinople re-established and the Hagia Sophia once again the practicing center of Eastern-Orthodox Christianity

I wonder what they would think of me?

The Ottoman Empire was among the first nations to recognize the new United States, and France was too.

There was a lengthy period of time where France and the Ottoman Empire fought England and it's running dog lackeys at every opportunity.

That’s a really old building. Turkey maintains it. If it were picked up and returned to church use only the Emperor and his family would regularly worship there ~ and the Greek Orthodox church would be bankrupt in a year.

“...he even forced a young French girl into his personal harem.”

Well, there you are. That was friendly.

C’mon. Turkey won’t be in EU in a lifetime, if ever.
I’m not even sure if Turkey is able to stay secular. With Gul in a driver’s seat it is most likely to follow Iran’s path.

Probably. At least I hope they never join the EU. But at this stage, it’s pretty academic. It’s not likely the EU is going to last much longer in any form.

The Euro is on the ropes, the Greeks are revolting, the Spaniards are getting drunk the Swiss are fortifying their borders, and the Germans are eating aspirin with a spoon.

And the French? Well, they are being French, which means nobody knows exactly what they will do, but you can bet that strikes are involved.
