Andrew Sullivan, following up his (Republican primary) endorsement of Ron Paul, argues today that campaign reporters and pundits who say he cant win the nomination are all wrong:
*snip*
No, he really cant. It would be nearly impossible to imagine the Republican Party nominating a candidate who spent years and years publishing a racist newsletter and has deep associations with the fringe far right. (Here he is speaking to the John Birch Society on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.) It would be even more impossible to imagine the Party nominating a candidate who favors total withdrawal from world affairs and takes a Chomsky-ite line on American power. The notion that the Party might nominate a candidate who does both these things is totally preposterous.
*snip*
Pauls supporters seem to believe that the media ignoring him is the only thing keeping him from challenging for the Party nomination. More likely, its the only thing thats allowed his candidacy to progress to this point. If more people actually understood the full scope of Pauls fringe-right views, a huge portion of his support would peel off.

Go back to TNR and you'll likely find more of this tripe, but aimed at George W. Bush.
Jonathan Chait, for anyone who cares.
I don't.
I plan on voting for the Republican candidate. I cannot possibly imagine Paul being the nominee. The thought is too bizarre to contemplate.
Ron Paul isn't the only Republican Chait haits.
States have rights? Whodathunkit?
Under some strange scenarios Ron Paul could win the presidency. Mitt Romney gets caught embezzeling money from his corporation, and fraudulantly funding his campaign with the money. At the same time Newt gets caught in a gay trist. He want give up his lovers name, but says its ok cause he didn’t mess around with other women like he promised his wife he wouldn’t. Barack Obama resigns. Telling the media he was tired of cleaning two houses, after divorsing his wife. Ron Paul is the last man standing.
You wonder, if the real reason many in the GOP are afraid of Ron Paul...is that he would cut the budget and spending...
Not my candidate (Michelle Bachmann is my choice)...but with the RINO infestation among the 2012 group....Ron Paul is actually more palatable than the Global Warming guy...the Open Borders/Illegal Alien In State Tuition guy....and the I was ObamaCare before ObamaCare guy.
In 2008 we had much better overall conservative candidates...and ended up with Liberal RINO Soros Funded John McCain. I see the GOP making another big mistake in 2012
