Really? You are that certain? Perhaps, you know something that God does not? Did someone die; and leave you as 'Final Judge'? Or do you just believe Christopher had/has no 'soul' to judge?
Cannot imagine making 'assumptive judgments' such as this.
If I were God; were not take 'kindly' to someone assuming to do my job; or speak for me; much less making serious 'final judgments' in my name.
(And certainly a good bit of all; on this and other 'Hitchens' threads.)
God’s word says
Hebrews 9:27 says we are all “destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.”
Luke 16:25 But Abraham replied, Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for Gods wrath remains on them.
The Dead Are Judged
Rev 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyones name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
“Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. “
John 14:6
It’s not that we are passing judgment. The Lord says those who refuse Him are judged already. Merciful God has given us the means and information for salvation. This is merely an opportunity to meditate upon the sadness of a death without hope of redemption, be thankful that God has made Himself known in Christ, and to repent once again and plead for His mercy.
You are right I don't know for certain that there wasn't a “deathbed” conversion.
The scriptures say that it is appointed for man to die once, and then the judgment. None of this good works business.
