We are not all so lucky as to be brought up in a household where Bill Buckley's "Firing Line" was routinely watched, both parents were solid conservatives with college educations, and National Review was on the coffee table.

I once mentioned the old saw about "If you are not a liberal when you are young, you have no heart and if you are not a conservative when you grow up, you have no brain," to my mother (I was about 27 at the time and a full blown Reagan campaigner). Her reply was "You never had a chance." LOL!

I was arguing with liberals in my freshman year in high school; haven't ever stopped.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, you were adult enough to realize your mistake and correct it. There are many liberals who simply refuse to admit their mistake. Denial and ego are very powerful forces in folks lives.
